Lowry, Scola, and Martin for Gasol is too much

People seem to assume that Dragic would stay in Houston if we pay him. He will probably draw interest from at least several teams. Maybe he will just pick whatever team wants to pay him the most money. He's only been in Houston for a short time, so I don't know if he has really settled in to the point that he would have any special desire to remain in Houston. What if someone offers him a 10-11 million a year contract? Do we really want him at that price tag? If the Rockets make the playoffs and Dragic plays great ball during the playoffs, he may get some huge offers.

It depends. If we can package Lowry for a star or HIGH potential star, then I’m okay with trading Lowry. If it means trading Lowry for something lame like the 6-10 pick in this draft (like I’ve seen some proposals for here) then no thanks. Lowry at $6M > Dragic at $10M + some underwhelming prospect like Harrison Barnes.

People aren’t putting a lot of consideration into this, but paying Dragic a big long-term contract based on two months of play does bear some risk. If we traded Lowry for anything less than a great player AND ended up with an overpaid contract then we'll end up looking terrible.

Can an organization trying to get to the top afford NOT to pay him?

I don't understand this....yes you pay him, of course, we want to keep the guys that make the Rockets better.

Can't be afraid of paying players what the market bares....that is what every championship team does and will do.

Cheap, penny pinching will not get you anywhere.

Congrats, Gogi! I'm hoping Kyle's return can help ease him into the playoffs so we can have a great 1-2 punch.

Who knows what kind of offers he may get this offseason. All Morey can do is say that he'll match any reasonable offer, and see what happens. Don't discount, however, the desire to stay with this team. That's quite a bond. That, and an extra year with larger raises. Meanwhile, enjoy the ride!

If he keeps up this level of play? Yes. Absolutely. I see superstar PG potential in Goran.

Let's not forget that Gogi had very fond words for McHale and the team... said he was a great coach and the team had a great bond. I don't know if he will take a discount to stay but he doesn't sound in a hurry to leave. He does want to start though.

Oh, I want to pay him, and I hope he stays. But is there anything that indicates that he wants to stay with the Rockets? Many times after a player has been with a team for a while, he says he wants to stay with that team and hopes something can be worked out. I don't know if Dragic has been here long enough to give the Rockets any advantage when the offers start rolling in. The Rockets haven't had much success in attracting many free agents lately, will Dragic be any different. It seems that a lot of people are assuming Dragic will stay if we make him a fair offer, but that may not be enough. He may find a team that he just thinks offers him a better opportunity to win a championship, or he may like living in another city more than Houston. We may have to make him a much more than fair offer to keep him. Every game he plays well, I see his price tag going higher. I'm wondering how high the Rockets would go. I think most people think Atlanta overpaid for Joe Johnson, but they did what they had to do to keep him. Is that where we are headed with Dragic?

we're in a very unique situation where we have two all-star caliber PG's. you have to get rid of one to improve another part of the team.

"Martin led the Western Conference in scoring, averaging 27.3 points on .517 shooting from the field (31-of-60). He shot .476 (10-of-21) from behind the arc and averaged 4.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.0 steals leading the Rockets to a 4-0 record."

    Wow, I miss that guy.

The advantage the Rockets have though is that they can give him 1 extra year, and max raises which will significantly effect his pay.

So if he got 3 years $15 million (just tossing it out as a reference point) then Houston could gve him 4 years and $21 million ish....

That is $6 million more guaranteed....and probably enough to lure him to sign here.

Thanks, that's good to know. Yes, he probably will be ours if we want to pay him. This will all be very interesting.

You guys think he'll crack the top 10 at least once, when it comes to MVP consideration, by the end of the season?

    That'd be pretty fun.
