This isn't a rebuild. They're nickel and diming their way to a 14th pick. We're watching history right now.

Maybe Morey is secretly executing his tanking plan, masquerading as failed FA signing and trades.

Less: Hey, Daryl, what's going on there?
More: Oh, nothing, Mr. Alexander. Dragic demanded a big contract. You know, you don't want to overpay. I am saving you tons of money.
Less: But I thought you were going to trade Lowry?
More: Sure, we've had Lin lined up.
Less: But Lin's contract would be more expensive than Lowry's.
More: Don't worry, the Knicks are gonna match. They lost out on Nash. Now they are gonna be screwed in years 3 and 4.
Less: So who will be our PG?
More: Don't worry, we have a whole bunch of high quality young players this year.
Less: Okay, whatever you say. Wait... aren't they all 6'9 PFs?
More: No, no, no. Some of them are really SF. You know, that Morris kid we got last year.
Less: What Morrs kid? I only saw a white dude playing SF for us.
More: Um, don't worry. I've got a plan. Remember what they say in CF.net? "In Morey we trust!"
More (to himself): Hehe, I'll finally get my hands on a top 3 pick next year.

yes, and fact is, by holding assets and cash we can re-build much faster. Well duh! Winter trade dead lines. Remember this.......

Dragic over pay.....another 9th place finish?

This actually is a rebuild. It's just hidden under the guise of incremental progress.

When you play a bunch of rookies and 2nd year players, you're developing them at the expense of winning games.

Many agents will say things in the interest of getting the best possible deal. And you'll typically hear your teams FA saying they want to stay because its a good bargaining tactic. Lee is saying those things, too but he hasn't signed with us yet. Tells me he's leaving, too and I wouldn't be surprised if Camby goes as well.

If Camby goes, then we really have a bigger issue here. This guy has made Houston his home for several years so it would make sense for him to stay at this stage of his career.

Houston is the off season home for many NBA players, but yet we can't get them to stay or sign here. What does that say?

I haven't been this worried or dismayed in a very, very long time.

Are you aware that there is a minimum amount of salary each team is required to spend each year?

I personally think Houston is an attractive place for a young up and comer to come play and make a name for himself, but right now the big ticket superstars just want to win it all. Thats really all it comes down to.

The Rockets can get the Asiks, Gordons, etc. to come to Houston is they pay up, but they aren't going to be able to pursuade a Chris Paul or Dwight Howard to come alone.

Morey knows this even though he can't come out and say so. I think the Dwight Howard move was contingent on several moves just like with the Gasol deal last season. Its not about getting just one star and thats it, you need two or three all-stars to compete.

Its amazing to me that fans are coming down that hard on Morey when he doing exactly what fans were hoping he would do last year. Building a team with youth and draft picks. They could get Gasol, Iguoudala, or Jefferson to Houston if they wanted to, but it would be false hope without the right cast surrounding those guys.

IMO, the Rockets should continue this path of bringing in young talent, making smart free agent aquisitions if possible, and not bogging down your payroll with guys who aren't going to make this team a contender overnight.

I love Gogi as much as anyone, but lets be honest here.... He's not the answer.

Of course, are you aware that you can fill those amounts with 1 year scrubs?

That's why Morey's trying to overpay Jeremy Lin?

My thought is, I think Dragic and Lin don't want to sign with Houston because of all the turmoil with Lowry (and Martin) and the fact Lowry hasn't been traded yet (since Lowry had an issue with Dragic). I can imagine that would be a difficult/frustrating environment to go into.

There is nothing wrong with the city of Houston or their management. Gordon was going to meet with Houston prior to signing with Phoenix....... Lin met with Houston........ Dragic's preferred destination was Houston .......... Dwight refused to agree to be dealt to anyone except Brooklyn ..... Bosh had the opportunity to play with LeBron and Wade and Gasol does not want to leave the Lakers because they are star studded.

It comes down to who has stars.

I guess the one thing that Dragic doesnt count on is his job being threatened in PHX...They have arguably the best PG in this years draft in Marshall...Dragic better play well...bc they have someone right behind him to take over...PG's these days really are a dime a dozen...other than a few elite ones...the leagues young PGs all have upside...Morey played his cards right...the Rockets will be sad but only for a bit...

and really the mgmt is trying to do so without being in the dregs of the NBA...its a new way...still unproven..but at least the Rockets have young talent...Look at the Mavs...they are screwed...

If Lowry had been traded it might have made their decision easier, but both players have still made an effort to make it work with Houston regardless of the situation with current players in their roster that might or might not be traded.

If Martin/Lowry had been traded it could have spelled disaster if they had to take bad deals, locked themselves out of the running for major trades, and risked missing out on any players that might sign in free agency.
