i couldn't agree more. i've seen that a few times and wondered why it was considered a negative. he was a very legit pro bowl level QB.
See, here's where I disagree with all of you... I think VY is the most unique QB I have ever seen. I don't think he could be compared to one guy in the NFL today or a great from the past. I think he has a skill set that encompasses the skill-set of many other top-notch QBs from the past and the presence. I honestly think he's more talented and has more potential than ANY QB in the history of the NFL. He can throw, he can run like it's nobody's business, he scrambles, and he has a set of intangibles that's difficult to find in today's players. So I don't think you can compare him to any one player, but it would probably be more accurate to say he has a little bit of all those guys who played/are playing the NFL. I have always disliked this immediate urge to label someone as the "next [fill in the blanks". I think we do that way too much in sports, and we do these guys a disservice because then we try to fit them into something they're not. Since this is a basketball board, I will use Yao Ming to illustrate my point. People have compared him to everyone from the greats Hakeem Olajuwon to Shaq, while others compared him to Rik Smits. IMO, Yao is the most unique big man this league has ever seen. He has finesse and footwork similar to Olajuwon's and you marvel at him because he can move so smoothely for a guy his size, something unprecedented in the NBA; At the same time, Yao has shown moments and games in which he bullied opponents much like Shaq does on regular basis; Also, he has range on his shot comparable to a Rik Smits; etc etc... So why do I bring that up? Because I think Yao is going to be the first "Yao", not the next Shaq or Dream or Smits or anyone else. There has never been a guy taller than 7'3" or so in this league that has been nearly as good as Yao is now. He's a unique player. That's my $.02 on this whole thing. Leave VY to be VY, you won't be disappointed...
Sorry to trample on Vince Young myth in the making but these traits aren't always good thing. Just consider how much people criticize Steve Francis, Kobe Bryant and AI for being their own self or trying to redefine their positions. I think Vince Young is a phenomenal talent and will do well in the NFL but depending on what sort of team he gets on I can easily see problems. The NFL game is different than the college game, a lot faster and bigger and Vince Young isn't going to be able to out run or run over NFL D players like he does to college players. Also while he's a better passer than most give him credit he still lacks touch and while getting completions doesn't often put his recievers in good positions to get yards after a catch. Look at how many times receivers had to stop to catch Young's pass or got smacked right away. His wobbly arm motion will also give pro-DB's a good chance to get at his passes. To be a great NFL quarterback, which I think he can, he's still going to have to learn and if he doesn't want to and butt heads with a coach like a Parcels he's going to have trouble in the NFL.
Yeah right Vince Young stiff arms you then puts a crazy ankle breaking juke on you and bursts out of the D & D straight to the hangout. TOUCHDOWN VINCE YOUNG.
I believe Vince Young is gonna improve so greatly in the NFL that he will actually complete 110% of his passes. Thus, he will redefine the phrase "giving 110%"
Hee, hee! You're being pulled back into the dark underbelly of the BBS, Max. The dreaded D&D. (takes notepad and scribbles, "Max... Vince Young!") Keep D&D Civil.
True Coach sayings from my HS years: "It's cut it or break it time." "Let's play defense like a sieve." "The cream rises to the top... don't be the milk."
Yes, he is. And if the Texans don't select him, I'm going to be ticked off! Don't be a stranger, Max. You're one of the good guys. Maybe you just need a hiatus. I've considered it a time or two, but I can't seem to stay away. It's where I get my political "fix." The place runs in cycles. It'll get better. I'm just staying out of some of the threads now, instead of posting in every one of them. I understand. Sometimes it's not worth arguing with people who have no interest in the topic, only in getting a rise out of you, or making you angry, while they laugh at their keyboard. Keep D&D Civil.
By the way, Vince has made the big time... he's on the Onion's Sports page: http://www.theonion.com/content/sports
That's only because you're a whiny wussy liberal who doesn't have the backbone to stand up for yourself. EXPOSED! Yeah only a whiny wussy wuss would want to keep the D & D Civil. Did I mention all you neo-wusses were wusses?
