The reason is because if you just want role players you can sign people in free agency, see Fred Van Vleet and Dillon Brooks. The draft is used to get cheap roster filler and possible superstars. Sengun is a good example, now that Rockets have him you think other teams will have a crack at him? Unless he demands a trade or falls off he will be a Rocket. The draft is the only way to access star level players unless you bamboozle a team like Morey or you are a prime FA location like Lakers. That's why this whole notion of drafting for fundamentals doesn't really make any sense. If we know for a fact Jabari will be just a middle tier role player then the Rox should have just brought in Grant Williams in FA. He will be much better fundamentally than any rookie.
Garuba and Tyty were waived to make way for Brook Lopez. Maybe us the audience didn't know what they can do but Stone and the coaching staff know what they can do since they saw them in practice. Considering both of them haven't even seen court time I think they just weren't that good.
Long story short . .. . . COACHES HAVE TO COACH MORE than in previous eras . .. . you know what.. . THAT'S OK . . THAT'S WHY THEY MAKE THE BIG BUCKS Jalen and Jabari can be as good as Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum I think UME can bring that out of them . . . . . Does anyone even remember those guy's 1st years? I hate all this chicken little talk We talk about these kids coming in too young and too raw Will I hate that they get maybe 1 and a half season and you guys ready to throw them away If they don't come in as Tim Duncan . . .ya'll b*Tch and moan and ready to trade them Honestly . ..they guys will make their bones in the off season With opportunities. . and work . . . hopefully with the coaching Ya'll hate Harden but the Opportunity to come to Rockets allowed him to blum His off season work allowed him to improve Better coaching and we have a couple of championships IMO Nah son . . I'm good with OUR GUYS . . .. . They WILL thrill and amazing .. . watch and see Rocket River
practically every year you get a couple guys that outperform the lottery picks taken before them... every year there are great players to be selected from throughout the draft - you just gotta find em... Conversely, u could draft a Kwame at #1 - and set yer franchise back a couple years by trying to force development of a guy that will never be a superstar.... People are so.... single minded. THIS is the way to do it! THIS is how previous champions did it so this i how it HAS to be done - until somebody figures out a different way... I'm so fkn sick of people babbling "ya gotta have a superstar blah blah blah..." Well there are only so many superstars to go around... you can keep starchasing like Morey - but then yer typically just coddling self absorbed a**holes... Build a balanced team - and then hope 1 or 2 guys excel over time... but folks need to stop anointing one kid or another as 'the future of the franchise' - cause it just make em look stupid imo... lol
folks are like junkies looking for that next fix... "we're gonna get a bron! we're gonna get a bron!" as they tap that vein... never considering the alternative consequences... lol
We don't know the future but given the limited information we have now it's better to develop a Jabari Smith than a Keegan Murray. Just common sense. Oh there are great players in the end of the draft you just gotta find them? If they were so easy to find they wouldn't be picked in the bottom of the draft lmao. If the draft is so easy to do you won't find a lot of busts like Kwame at no 1.
