You'd have a point except he said that years ago and has turned down coaching offers since then. Plus, JVG is a straight forward guy. We know he doesn't sugarcoat anything and tells it like it is. Also, his career speaks for itself. He doesn't need to show anybody anything to get a job.

I think the Pistons spent too much money on him. I bet he could have been picked up on a 10 day contract.

OMG, the Lorenzen Wright was found dead thread was right under this one and I thought for a second it said T-Mac was found dead in Detroit!

I got scared for a second!

I don't think JVG is blatantly lying, by the way. I think Van Gundy actually likes McGrady and appreciated his work (even while recognizing his flaws). He's always been friendly with, and publicly appreciative of, players who carried his teams. Even now, JVG talks about how Patrick Ewing was his meal ticket whenever he does a Orlando game and Assistant Coach Ewing is being discussed.

For all his faults, McGrady was a huge part of two 50+ win teams under JVG. As such, Van Gundy's views on TMac may have tended to be more optimistic than an objective observer's would have been. I think JVG really hopes that McGrady recovers well and get his mojo back even if objective evidence would suggest that the prospects for such recovery is relatively remote.

Yeah, he really appreciates all his players that play for him, even Stevie. Well, that might be questionable.

this is the last chance to prove himself. if he can't, we should expect a retirement.

hopefully we'll see a better tmac.

He's not gonna prove anything even if Detroit did take him.
A bench guy in a lottery team that's 30+ with injury history and ego problem. If he can be anywhere close to be like Hill he's lucky.

TMac should try CBA, he might play well and get some endorses there.

Well, we said it last season as well. The problem is he is never gonna be a good nba player again. Why?

Because he doesn't understand that he is comming off a microfracture. He thinks he is gonna be a superstar this season averaging 20 a game.

The thing is he is never gonna be the same. He doesn't undarstand that. He could become a great bench player or even a starter but a role player but his brain will not allow him to do so.

In his eyes he should always be number 1. But no teams in the NBA will allow him to do that. He couldn;t handle a team in his prime.

Let's be serious. He is pretty much done. I wish him well but that is just how it is. The guy can't even get a freakin' 1 year minimum contract

    Enough said.

Detroit isn't the worst city on earh I hate when people say things like that. The inner city may be bad because of all the killing but downtown there's many nice things you can do to have great time.

this is great if Tmac can spend all the money the Rockets gave him on Detroit, he can revitalize the city.

i didn't question his charity. i'm just assuming he spends lots of money.
you know like when he goes to vegas.

he doesn't even play a full season. plus you have all that time after the regular season that he doesn't play, he's got lots of time to spend his disposable income.

So let me get this straight. Everything except the killings are good in Detroit? So how far do I need to watch my travel from downtown Detroit to start worrying about the killings?
