I also remember Magic crowning Yao and Tmac the next Shaq and Kobe. Anyways, I think trading with New York is not a bad idea, and if we do get Larry Hughes, who knows if Morey will pull some complicated 3 way trade so we can get a high draft pick. Plus Tmac in New York, that would be perfect for him, a system that plays no defense and allows him to jack up as many jump shots as he wants. If Q Richardson can drop 35 points, then I'm sure Tmac will drop 45 and all the tmac fans would say he's back! win win situation.
I think it would have to be some 3 way trade. I really don't see that New York has anything to offer us other than their draft pick. Curry is an awful defender/rebounder for a big man and we would be Larry hughes' fourth team in 2 years. I get the feeling nothing we hear is set in stone. It's more likely Morey is talking with everyone about any player on our roster not named Yao Ming.
THANK YOU MOREY. like someone said, its not b/c t-mac doesnt have stuff left in the tank. its a contract year so you know he'll be back as a force, but he just doesnt fit this team and its offense.
If he is that good, the celtics won't shop him. I think the rockets signing Brent Barry was a mistake. If they sign Ray Allen, that will be another mistake.
I really like Kevin Martin. His efficiency is very good. He has great shooting skills and doesn't hold the ball a lot. Plus, he is young!
The Rockets wouldn't be "signing" Ray Allen. He is in the last year of his contract. The "sign-and-trade" reference was about Artest. While I'm not so sure I would do that (very hypothetical and unlikely) deal, it does have some advantages. By taking on a very good NBA player (mind you, one who would fit the Rockets' system perfectly) in the last year of his deal, without giving up T-Mac, the Rockets would be set up to actually have a good amount of cap room in 2010. While (as I posted in a thread a little while back) T-Mac's expiring contract alone would not net the Rockets significant cap room if the team re-signed Artest, having BOTH T-Mac and Allen's contract expire in 2010 could generate a good amount of cap room.
besides help with the development of the young players, mentor von, provide veteran leadership as a multiple time nba champion, help with the development of in-game strategy and game planning, coach on the floor, add versatility, ballhandling and length to the rockets backcourt, space the floor for yao, etc etc? pretty much the only thing he didnt do was hit the 3 at his usual rate, and a lot of that is because he got such inconsistent minutes with the emergence of von. nevermind that he helped von do what he did in the first place. but please, tell us all what you would rather have spent $2m on at the time. i'm guessing surely you could have gotten more than that for your money.
