What if we could get Bosh and a re-signed Marion from Toronto for McGrady, a future first, and one of our PFs? We could even take back Marcus Banks for Brian Cook to give them more expirings to make the deal work for them. And if the rumors are true that Washington is looking to move Antwan Jamison to Cleveland to cut salary, we should be involved in that scenario. Take Jamison and their #5 for Cook, Landry, Dorsey, and Barry's expiring. Or work out a bigger deal using McGrady to get a combo of Jamison and Butler (dream scenario), but we would have to sweeten the pot quite a bit for Washington to do it. We'd have to give them either or both Battier and Landry in exchange for more of their junk. Jamison and Butler would be a big time fit with Yao and Brooks. For that matter, so would Marion and Bosh.
At $10 million? No you wont. the only thing i'll take from the knicks is their first rounder and david lee...obviously the salaries wont match. so who else would you take? jared jefferies at 6 million? chris duhon at 6 million....god the knicks are awful
Thanks OP! I think this was long overdue. As a team, the Rockets have MOVED ON. The T-Mac era is near its close. For his sake, I hope he comes back from rehab ok. He can stil contribute, but likely for a sub .500 team. one year from now, I can also see T-Mac's role changing to that of a Jerry Stackhouse on Dallas - one of being an off-the-bench scorer. Time will tell. theSAGE
Al Harrington is a free agent. Also, I don't see any way that the Knicks (who I think are one of only a few teams willing/able to trade for T-Mac's huge contract - I know it's expiring, but it's also difficult to add salaries in a trade) do a deal for T-Mac this summer without the Rockets having to take back either Eddy Curry or Jared Jeffries. If the total package was right, I wouldn't mind being forced to take back Jeffries. Even though he's wildly overpaid, he still can fill a role on a playoff team as a long frontcourt defender.
Hurry up and trade T-Mac. Everywhere he's gone, the next star players has gotten injured. I think as soon as he leaves, we will start having good health. Grant Hill Yao Even Ron Artest
you're right about the knicks being one of the few teams that can and might take tmac. i would take back either one of those (curry, jeffries) contracts in order to split tmac's huge contract in half, hopefully making it easier to get a deal done. for argument sake, suppose there is a deal in place for rip hamilton, but the pistons don't want to give up more than just rip for an ending contract. the rockets would have to take back twice this amount if they offered tracy, but if his contract was split in half by the knicks then a 3 way deal can be done. tracy/brooks for #8/curry/richardson, then #8/richardson for rip. something like that could be the reason why we're trying to get one of the PG's in the lotto, probably for someone else in order to make a deal work.
Exactly. I don't wonder why more people don't get this. The current Rocket roster gave the Lakers their toughest series of the playoffs and they did it with physical basketball, suffocating defense and arguably the best chemistry in the league. Why would the team bring back a guy who could and probably would disrupt that? Especially when we all know he is gone by the end of next season no matter what. Yep. Bring him back to sabotage arguably the Rockets best chance to win it all. Management knows better than to do that. Tracy McGrady will not ever wear a Rockets uniform again.
It sounds like it's some other team who's interested in McGrady abut is trying to lower his value. "Actively shopping" and missing the "first 20-30 games" that's suggesting the Rockets are desperate and McGrady is done.
i would trade him for nothing. seriously. just drive out to the country, pop the door open and be like "you're free!!!" damn stupid salary matching rules annoy me . . .
Thank God, finally. No more hate TMac threads! but I will miss TMac for everything he has given us in the playoffs and in regular season (except this past year). Although we never got past the first round with him, can't say I blame him. Anyways, I don't get all the Rick Hamilton and Redd trade discussions. I say we should try to get someone who can create his own shots and attack the basket. I don't want another spot up shooter.
So 1st there were rumors we're targeting a top 5 pick. Now there are rumors we're trying to move TMAC.....So let's see : TMAC + Brooks or TMAC + Landry, or TMAC + Brooks + Landry for lotto pick + fillers ? I'd think the fillers would be longer term contracts, but could be players Rockets could use, not just trash.
Just like the year prior Atlanta took the eventual champions Celtic to 7 games? So you are saying they were better than the Lakers who only won 2 games against those same Celtics? Guess what? Look what the Lakers did the following year and how great Atlanta was this year. lol... If you think we are better without a healthy TMac and even Yao (coz he missed two wins against the Lakers) pass me whatever you are smoking. Oh well useless arguing in this Garm about the value of a healthyy TMac. Don't bother replying. Anyways, I just wanted to point out the fallacy in your point above.
Personally, I think it is smart to shop him around. There is no harm in shopping him around considering it's his last year and we play well without him anyway. We can see what we can get without him and if it's not greater than the possibilities of what we can get with a load of salary cap room then we just hold on to his expiring contract and become a big player in 2010. What excellent player would not want to play on a team that has heart, excellent role players, team chemistry, and is in need of a clutch performer. Plus, if you're a clutch player... you could imagine playing for a D. Morey team and what he could build around you.
thank you management, and even if we don't move him hopefully these trade rumors will motivate him to get into shape and help this team. here's hoping
