not advocating acquiring amare, but this post is just awfully flawed logic. kobe bryant gets paid roughly 20 times more than von wafer. i guess since he doesn't average 180 pts, 60 assists, and 60 boards/game, he's waaaay overpriced.
Correct. I am curious as to why you think the Rockets don't need Ron Artest. Without Artest and (for a good part of the season) T-Mac, the Rockets will probably struggle to even get into the playoffs, let alone get a high seed.
Maybe we, or those who may not want Amar'e, should go back and look at Clutch's article on what we may be looking to do this offseason/team trade partners.(Top 5 teams for Rockets to plunder in trades). http://www.clutchfans.net/news/1535/top_5_teams_for_rockets_to_plunder_in_trades/ There you have it, by Clutch himself. Of course, new things have been said, like we are or were targeting a PG in the lottery, etc but you take things for what they are worth. Sometimes Clutch is right, sometimes wrong. However, I myself wouldnt mind a trade for him though nor will I trade away half the team to get him but I'm also not going to be disappointed if nothing happens out of it. I can see why most dont want it to happen, because we have a guy in Scola, and it seems, maybe its just me, that everyone thinks we would we trading just for Stoudemire. I think we would be getting a G or something else in return if such a trade was to happen. But anyhow, everything right now is pure rumor and speculation. Maybe something happens at next week's draft? We'll have to wait and see.
Wait I thought Lakers were paying him half for his basketball skills and half for for his ladykiller talent?
Yes, but Kobe does more than Wafer......all around. Amare scores more, but is arguably worse on defense, and is worse in rebounding. So, while he gets more points, teamwise he is just not that much of an upgrade over what we currently have.... DD
Yeah DD's logic is a bit flawed about the whole $ thing. Also, he likes to defend his fondess of Magette by saying hey, if Popovich was interested, that's good enough for me. Well, if Morey really liked Amare and was going after him, then that's good enough for me as well.
scores more, draw more double teams, is never left open, shot 54% last year, but 57% and 59% the previous 2 years, shoot 84% from ft, and got around 9 rebounds and 2 blocks per game on just 33 minutes of play 2 years ago. last year was a bad season for him b/c of all the drama surrounding the suns. 21.4ppg and 8rpg was a BAD year. no, he does a lot more than just score. check some tapes of amare 2 years ago when he was motivated and was a damn beast and was in consideration for MVP along with steve nash.
Funny that you guys want a guy that may not even be able to see correctly next season. Guess STAT fans are only looking at stats.
yea, the vision was a problem for a while before the surgery. still shot 54% and 84% from the line. many players would love that vision
He may not, but solidifies our front court. What's a Larry Hughes + Cuttino Mobley deal gonna do for the Rockets?
Hughes does nothing but sit there and stink. Mobley gets us 9 million to play the free agent market this year. Insurance is picking up Mobley's salary, we could do alot with that money or we could trade Mobley's money plus a player for someone from a team that is hurting.
Until you see him play after the surgery I think you should reserve judgement. You might have Horace Grant 2.0 on the decline.
I think Cuttino Mobley's contract could be VERY valuable as part of a three-way deal. I believe the following trade works under the salary cap: Knicks get: Tracy McGrady Suns get: Carl Landry, Wilson Chandler, Cuttino Mobley's (80% covered by insurance) expiring contract Rockets get: Amare Stoudemire, Jared Jeffries While I'm not so sure any one of these teams would do this deal, it at least makes SOME sense for each of them. The Knicks clear off Jeffries's contract and will now easily have enough room to sign two max contract free agents next summer (subject to what they decide to do with David Lee and Nate Robinson this summer). The Suns get two quality young players in Landry and Chandler, plus they save about $9-10M next year alone. The Rockets get their big name frontcourt acquisition in Stoudemire, but have to take on Jeffries's contract to do so. Still, Jeffries could play a role on the Rockets as a long (6-11) frontcourt defender off the bench. Landry wouldn't be missed too greatly, since Luis Scola would take his spot as the first big man off the bench. Just a thought.
Shhh...stop using logic here, that is not going to be looked at by the peanut gallery. In peanut land, everyone recovers 100%......every time.... We don't need a better PF, we need a better scoring WING and a backup Center..... DD
Why do people think the Knicks would simply do us a favor? They are not giving us Wilson Chandler or Mobley's insurance payouts for McGrady. As bad as the Knicks have been about managing their personnel, you would have to assume that whatever moves they make are forward-thinking... with the intent of signing either Amare or Chris Bosh. I think they are interested in moving David Lee for someone who can be a solid replacement until the Knicks manage to sign Amare or Bosh. Ron Artest, Carl Landry and Brian Cook for David Lee, Quentin Richardson (Or Mobley's Contract) and #8 pick.
It's not a favor. The Knicks see McGrady as talent that could possibly lead them to the playoffs this upcoming season without compromising their 2010 cap space. It's win-situation for everyone. Knicks gamble on an 1-year rental superstar, T-Mac goes to team where he can put up stats instead of "touch the ball every 5 minutes" only, Rockets free up salary and get a better trade asset in Mobley.
DD, With all due respect, I think you are missing the point. You keep restating that we don't need a PF and you point out that we have good value in terms of contracts at the PF position, and don't need to spend mega-bucks on an all-star PF. I agree that the 4 is not our primary need as a team, but I believe that a 4/5 (especially one who's a game-changer) would be the most valuable acquisition we could make this summer. We need a backup to Yao and we need one badly. Since it is usually an extended period of time that Yao is out, and not a game here or there, we need a damn good backup center. Having an explosive 4/5 like Amare gives us so much more flexibility on the floor IMHO. You rightly point out that Amare is not a candidate for the all defensive team, and I agree with you, but I would submit that Scola (despite his effort) and Landry (who's just terrible at defense) are not much better. Adding Amare solves our backup center problem (a huge problem) and it gives us an explosive, dominant big man at the begining of the prime of his career. Teams would kill for that. A front line of Yao and Amare is a monster, and that would take a lot of pressure off our backcourt. A Yao, Ron, and Amare combo is something special.
it is true that this team's greatest need is at the wing. in fact, we had unarguably the two worst offensive wing players among all playoff teams. add in the fact that neither brooks nor lowry can really create and you can see why perimeter playmaking/scoring is this team's greatest need. now, with all of that said, assembling a yao-amare combo for peanuts is just too damn enticing to dimiss on the basis of current roster needs. if you really aren't in a realistic position to contend (and that point is debatable for this team), you don't pass up on a 26 year old legit all-star power forward. young stars are hard to come by in this league. especially at the reported cost at which amare is being shopped. i would pull the trigger after taking the market into consideration. top priority is a star wing. if the likes of kevin martin, danny granger, or even chris paul are reasonably likely to be come available, they are the top targets for this team. but given the unlikelihood of any of those scenarios, you pull the trigger for amare. like i said, you don't NOT trade for him to add a lesser wing guy like rip hamilton with the thinking that you're just one wing player away. unless you're already on the cusp, you trade for the young star even if he doesn't seem to "fit" what you have at the moment. my main concern though is with regard to amare's eye condition. his health worries me, frankly speaking. i would need complete clearance before signing off on that deal.
