If Toronto is losing Bosh, they're going to want to add as much young talent as possible. I just don't see them trading the #13 pick. But who knows? Also, I think part of the benefit of drafting Donatas is that you don't HAVE to play him next year. He would not crack the Rockets' rotation next year. So why pay him to sit on the bench when he can develop overseas FOR FREE?
I'd rather have each of Brooks, Hill and Budinger over the #13 pick, especially since we already have the #14 pick and can get a comparable young talent without giving up anything from this team. It's not like the draft has a clear-cut "Top 13 Players" and the dropoff from #13 to #14 is steep. If anything, the top players comprise about the top 7 or 8 spots, then there is a tier of guys in the 8 to 11 range, and then I see a bit of a dropoff. The #13 pick is not worth that much, especially to the Rockets. I could see Morey trading down about 5 to 10 spots (and acquiring an additional asset) more than I see him trading up one spot or otherwise trading assets to acquire the #13 pick.
I think the only downside to Motiejunas developing overseas is that he doesn't get the opportunity to work on his game with Yao and our tremendous staff next season.
