Ya'll can paint a pretty picture all you want... This team does not have the horsepower that the good teams in the West have... Battier is not the link that will better this team anywhere near what is required to even make the playoffs... Too many of the teams in the West improved far more than the Rockets... We will be a lottery team again... Even with Mcgrady and Yao playing injury free we will not make the playoffs... I see no playoffs until present management and especially Van Gundy are gone... McGrady will start being a problem after next season and will be traded... Yao will never even smell a championship... Go ahead and keep trying to convince yourself that this was a great draft, your freaking dreaming... Both the Rockets and the Texans have taken all the joy and hope out of following my 2 favorite Houston teams... Thanks for that... I hope Reggie Bush and Rudy Gay are all stars and hall of fame players...
I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone mention that Shane is a prospect for the next US mens Olympic team. Look at some of the other names he's grouped with. His stats may not be eye-popping, but he certainly brings the high IQ and inangibles that we need. http://www.usabasketball.com/seniormen/2006/06_mwc_players.html
Most people here are absolutely convinced that Rudy Gay is the bonafide superstar and has the cure for AIDS. This scenario seems same as a couple months ago in a different sport......
Do you ever have anything positive to say? For such an experienced individual in life, your wisdom and poise and peace-of-mind really seem to be lacking . . . at least in your posts. The only breath of fresh air you've seemed to contribute to our community has been a short blurb about the alston-james trade being good for both teams. And you've actually made a 180 on that by more recently calling the trade one of the 10 worst all-time for the Rockets. Why exactly do you not feel the Rockets are even playoff worthy? I hear Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming are pretty good players. And the presence of those guys on the floor last year would have put us in the playoffs (4th or 5th best record in the west). Shane Battier is a positive influence on a team. Unless you perhaps just hate dukies (and rightly, that is your perogative), you should be able to dig a little deeper than the glitz and glamour and find this guy to be effieicent in his play and his team-effective performance is considerably positive with him on the court versus off. God willing, Yao and T-Mac will win a championship. They're good guys. They're blessed with extraordinary gifts and skills. They work hard on their crafts. They play the game the way it's supposed to be played. And they're getting better. They're doing all the things that need to be done in order to win. How can anyone hate or doubt on that? Sincerely, I just hope you don't live this way (as negatively as your posts). Life is far too short to be so jaded. Smile, have a little faith, and find a little peace.
As a fan of Houston sports I am truly glad you are off the bandwagon. Stay off. Stop following Houston sports.
I will have something positive to say when the management of both teams quit crushing my spirits... They have managed to take all the joy out of next season for me in both sports... Yeah I am thrilled and have plenty of good things to say...
Im not yet ready to judge this trade until I see the teams on the floor. But I do not think the Rox are in dire straits by any stretch of the imagination. This will probably be one of the 5 best teams in the West if they can stay healthy... and this assessment is coming from someone who is pretty pessimistic about his own teams.
I feel for you BoneYardDog, though I don't agree with you. It saddens me to hear you say you hope Bush and Gay end up burning us. Please don't break the unspoken rule on this board, which is that we all want Houston to do well, even if we have differing opinions on how that should be achieved. If you are here to be a hater, I suggest you try another site. In any case, my personal opinion is that both the Bush and Gay moves are solid, if not flashy (I won't get into my reasons since the topic has been discussed ad nauseam in other threads). Unfortunately, this is the problem with the Moneyball approach. Both Bush and Gay are players who look like they'd be fun to watch, and you lose some of the fun in dreaming about your team when you make efficient, rather than flashy moves. The consolation, however, is winning, which IMHO feels pretty damn good.
The way they decribed Novac makes him look like our 3rd scorer we've been needing. Especialy one who can hit from outside the lines. In a way, they hyped Novac up like Boki was when he came into the league. I still remember columnists saying Boki would end up being better than Yao. Boki was supposodly our best pick and a future star.
