So I was on ESPN's website earlier today, and I was "playing" lottery chances game. The first time I visited page, it showed the Nets getting the 1st overall pick. After I refreshed the page, the Nets took the 1st overall spot again. I tried it again, this time Golden State got lucky enough to grab the 1st overall draft pick. I tried it ONE MORE time, guess what team showed up getting the first overall pick? The Rockets! So by that logic, we have a 1/4 chance to get the first overall pick!
Yep, Whiteside has a lot of potential, but I've also heard a lot of bad things about his character and work ethic. As already mentioned, high risk factor, could turn out to be a bust, and his draft stock has been falling recently. Aldrich is the exact opposite, he has a relatively low ceiling (he will never be a star) but he is a game-changing NBA ready defender right now and as close to being a sure thing as you're going to find in this draft. That's why he's my #1 choice, he is all but certain to do very well at filling the one role we need the most, interior defense. If we're going for an upside pick I prefer Udoh and Alabi because they have similarly impressive tools to Whiteside without the character concerns, and both could make a defensive impact right away as well.
oh, i don't know that we have already launched the model of lottery, do I ? Or we are gonna win some more games fighting for playoff games?
why don't you like Udoh?.. he's got a mid range shot and post up game, nba body (wide shoulders, good but not great athleticism)... he can pass well for a big man.. and averages 4 blocks per game
because he's a solid player. The rockets need another rebounder and he has the ability to defend other big men one and one in the post. http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=3916656&categoryid=3776499 ESPN has this to say about him... Aldrich is widely considered the best center in college basketball -- a smart player who can rebound, block shots, and run the floor and score in a variety of ways. Aldrich isn't having a great junior year, but teams still regard him as a likely top 10 pick. And one his strengths are he is very efficient, and we all know Morey loves efficiency. http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=3916656&categoryid=3776499
I should clarify I would take him at 17-20th but no way would I take him with a lottery pick, and the same thing for Alabi... Okay people lets not Underrate Aldrich, the guy does have some upside, not as much as Whiteside, Cousins, Monroe, Favors, etc....but he does have upside... I see him as a serviceable starting center at some point down the road... he is 6'11 with a 7'6 wingspan, and only 21 yrs old, not to mention the guy runs the floor well for a 7'0 ...i would take him if all the other prospects I want are already taken... --RB
I'm not saying he's a bad player but picking him the lottery would be worst then picking Battier in the lottery. Is that all we want from our pick is someone solid?I would rather pick Larry Sanders who would be solid but at least have some upside too.
Rockets have been picking up solid players every year with Morey. It hasn't been a winning formula, we need more than just solid players. We need a player with potential to be more than just solid.
Larry Sanders is a project.. he's not ready NBA ready. everything is not about upside either... take a look at Spencer Hawes.. during the 07 draft scouts said he had limited upside/potential, but he was NBA ready. Now he is a solid NBA player.
We have Jordan Hill, Chase Budinger, and hell even Jermaine Taylor who are all players with potential.
What is he not ready for?All he has to give is size, shot blocking and rebounding.Would that be asking to much?
Landry was a solid draft pick. Brooks was a solid draft pick. Scola was a solid draft pick traded to the Rockets. Battier was a solid player traded for with the 8th pick. Maybe the Rockets could get something better this draft year. They have had their fill of solid players and 1st round exits and lottery seasons.
Screw solid picks..we have a lottery pick...go for an all star talent..If its a center..good. if its not..who cares?
Battier turned out to be a good lottery pick for the same reasons picking Aldrich would be a good move. You don't seem to understand how many lottery picks turn out to be busts, especially outside the top 5. It's very attractive when you can pick a player you are almost 100% certain would be a very good roleplayer in the NBA.
Weaknesses: Has very little offensive skill level ... Still learning the game, developing fundamentals, basic stuff such as boxing out and setting proper screens ... Having just two years of high school ball under his belt, he struggles to do some basic things such as catching and shooting and converting shots inside the paint . http://www.nbadraft.net/players/larry-sanders
