I'm hoping(and assuming) it will be for a tackle. Matthews or Robinson (though I don't see him falling that far)....I'd be okay if they had someone else in mind (other than Manziel) as long as they at least picked up Taylor Lewan out of this too.
1 scenario we should be braced for is drafting Clowney #1, we all celebrate and get drunk, Mack is still there at 6, so we trade down with Atlanta, Clowney for Mack+picks I could see that happening if the picks are juicy enough
I've had it confirmed by a related reliable source to my initial reliable source (wait – wha?) that I interpreted the smirk correctly. Manziel's not in consideration. Per new, related source - it’s down to Mack or Clowney. If they keep the pick. But the fact this guy doesn’t know… I mean, this may be the tightest ship ever run in the history of the draft.
I don't know who your source is, but I have a direct first person source in the Texans organization and I can tell you 100% that Johnny Manziel has been "considered."
That's rather vague; I would guess 300-something players have been "considered" these past several months. Whether they're *in consideration,* however... We'll see; as I said in my first post - I wasn't told anything directly, in terms of a trade down and/or Manziel - just given enough context - again, from really and truly reliable sources (one of which, I guarantee, trumps your source - which isn't a dick-slapping comment as much as it's just... a fact) to form some fairly logical conclusions.
But, but, but I thought they were trading the pick?! Now the may keep it? Do your sources just read twitter or the NFL Draft Thread on this forum?
One more thing... these paticular sources were random. I had never dealt with them before. I do have a reliable, fairly high-ranking (though admittedly unrelated to football operations) "friendly" source within the Texans and that person doesn't know squat (or so they have claimed for months). I think they've kept the lid on this thing and that only a few people truly know. Not saying your source isn't legitimate (who really knows?) - but I would wager they're not sending out org-wide emails; especially to non-football operations people. I would guess the people who know are: Bob, Cal, Rick, coaches, possibly a prominent player or two and not many others. (And yes, both of my sources here are listed in that group...)
Again... I was told that Bob McNair would not be in NY tonight... by Bob McNair himself. Really, I said, incredulously. Well, we might trade the pick, he said. He was there for Carr; he was there for Mario. He will not be there tonight. Why? Could be a million reasons. I personally think it's telling. But I could be (way) wrong.
oh, stop it. he said specifically that he wasn't told dispositively...that he was given hints and told some things that led him to believe they would be trading out. that included the fact that McNair wouldn't even be attending the draft. He never once was a jerk about it. He never flaunted it or said he knew for sure. And, no, his sources aren't just twitter and NFL draft threads.
Greatness. Its clowney, lock this thread up. You don't need all these sources and insiders. He is the highest grade player. The texans always take the highest graded player.
