The writing is on the wall. Bob wants a franchise QB, more specifically a franchi$$$e QB aka Manziel. Lol Clowney is only here if we are unable to make a trade. Obviously best player in the draft, but not an easy decision...telling
Everyone WANTS a franchise QB, unfortunately there isn't one available. The question is if you reach for a QB just so you can say you picked one early or if you pick the best player and improve the talent on your team.
This. It sounds like McNair really wants Manziel. But he can't get everyone on board with it. If he trades back it makes that easier. It shouldn't be hard to get someone to come up for Clowney. Just going to be a question what he will accept for it.
Clowney is held in high regard. Lets hope some team is so in love with him, that they decide to give us two 1's, two 2's and a little more. I think it will be Atlanta or Oakland.
But how does that benefit McNair monetarily? The Texans can't sell more tickets than they already are. They might sell a lot of Manziel jerseys but guess what? The Texans don't get (most of) that money. Merchandise revenue is split equally amongst the teams. Somebody buying a Cleveland Browns Manziel jersey is worth the same to McNair as if they bought a Texans one. There's little financial incentive to pick one player over another unless maybe you're in a situation like Jacksonville, where they don't sell out their games and bringing in an exciting player might help gate sales.
McNair might crave more attention, and Manziel would certainly bring him that, but the fact that Manziel is a media darling is irrelevant, it's what he does on the field that should get McNair's attention. Manziel is anti Schaub.
Sounds to me McNair isn't sold on anyone. Obviously they are not head over heels in love with any player since they are entertaining trading the pick. Sounds to me when he speaks of Clowney he's thinking of Mario... Doesn't matter how good he was as an individual player _ his impact on the team wasn't that great. And he doesn't sound like he's 100% confident in any of these quarterbacks either. This is a very exciting draft.
Well, you don't know that, no one does. There may be several franchise QB's available, but we won't know until they have actually played in the NFL. There have been many QB's drafted in the past that were thought to be franchise QB's that turned out to be flops. Other QB's drafted after the first round that turned out to be terrific. You and everyone else is just guessing.
There's no obvious franchise QB and McNair said as much publicly. There's gambles that could be made reaching for a guy who might maybe end up being a franchise QB one day. So that's sort of what I meant by saying there isn't one available.
Texans are taking Manziel #1 unless there is a ridiculous trade offer. Naysayers might as well get on board and enjoy the ride.
First, all the propaganda, and now that we're in serious negotiations....THE TRUTH. Bring home the motherload!
Not sure if it's been metioned or posted but Gil Brandt states Mack will go before Clowney, Teddy will go in the 1st round, and Manziel will go top 5 but probably not #1. If J.R. already posted it, disregard.
Agreed. McNair is letting the NFL know the following: We are taking Clowney...but will trade him to whomever picks Manziel as long as you give us more in compensation beyond just Manziel when we trade.
Isn't that a pickle? Let's say ATL wants Watkins, for example, and Houston wants Manziel. Houston takes Watkins with every expectation that JFF will be there at 6 - but then the Jags take JFF with the 3rd pick. Houston would be SOL, wouldn't they? I mean, Watkins isn't a bad player, but he's not the one we wanted.
