What I can see from Mr. Morey's draft analysis was he is drafting potential and used a 30% risk rate so

Brooks is 70% of Iverson = Earl Boykins

Laundry is 70% of Boozer = Paul Milsap

Newley is 70% of Wally = Gordon Girecek

    ...not bad not bad...

Ok, it's freaking late 1st round pick. Yeah, deep draft, splitter all that, but still a crap shoot. Look it this way, we picked, and got 3 more players. At the end of day, we still have Yao and Tmac. Cheer up.

The plan from the start should have been to trade away our draft picks. It was obvious we were not going to get anything. The 26 pick plus Head or Alston or Sura could get us a reasonable forward.

I give it an F. But I hope I am wrong and Brooks surprises us next year.

im so sick of the whole draft thing
and i think i started to understand why houston tends to trade most of their draft picks recently years, because they have some lazy ass scout whom wont go into deep scout and dont have vision to make a outstanding choice.

after seeing another undersize guard been added to our lineup, i am afraid our backcourt will be overpowered by deron williams this year AGAIN

but i thought again, maybe this is better for the new coach, but i dont want think further, coz im so tired of this whole thing.

    we have more than 4.

alston, james, v-span, lucas, brooks and head can be considered a pg.

    that's 6.

So we are going to take guards in a big man heavy draft and next year when it's guard orientated we are going to draft PFs? That's how I see it.

Exactly. As I said in the Brooks thread, and as someone who's actually watched him a lot, this is a very solid pick. Brooks was incredibly undervalued because people just didn't see a lot of him. Think Tony Parker on meth, with a better jumper, and with no French accent. Sounds good to me.

The same people who're all mad about this draft were really excited when we traded three picks for Mr-Potential-Oops-Uh-I-Mean-Shoot-at-his-Girlfriend-and-um-then-later-wreck-his-SUV-while-masturbating Griffin.

Solid draft without a lot to work with, in terms of our picks.

Do wish we'd found a way to get Almond but Utah was probably laughing their asses off when we called them.

This is what Morey should say at the press conference...

so we can fire his ass.

Based solely on the draft, alone, I gave the Rockets a D as their grade.

    1) I know Morey hinted at taking the best player available at #26, but when the likes of Glen Davis, Nick Fazekas and Josh McRoberts are staring you in the face couldn't we have killed two birds with one stone? What I mean by that statement is with those prospects still waiting on the board, we could've picked up the best player availble that also filled a gaping need in our lineup (power forward).

    2) Aaron Brooks... another guard... another "potential point guard"... one that is undersized... when we already have a log jam at the 1 position.

Aaron Brooks resembles Monta Ellis to some extent with his speed, ball handling and finishing. He also seems to have a decent outside shot. He looks like a combo guard and not a pure PG.His lack of height and size really concerns me. Ellis and Head are around 6'3".This guy is listed at 5'11" and probably is even shorter. Is he going to be able to finish around the basket in the pros and can he handle the physical banging that he will face or shoot over taller players? Will he be able to play with control? I hope he proves skeptics like me wrong.
If he can prove himself to be better than Earl Boykins I'll give the Rockets some credit. I said it was another wasted pick because I was upset that the Rockets didn't go for Splitter even if he has to stay in Spain for one more year. If he gets in a situation like Scola then picking him would have been of no use but I think the Spurs have scored again with a good role player. Getting a 4 in free agency or trade isn't easy especially with our limitations and lack of quality 4's.
I don't know anything about Landry so I can't comment about him.
Many people have commented that Les should have gotten the 24th pick to get Fernandez.
We have no idea if such an attempt was made or not although it pains me to see Portland buying his rights.
Newley seems like another mistake while Herbert Hill was still available.
I can't give an overall grade but I'm pretty disappointed.

If you guys think Rafer is going to stick around I feel sorry for you.

Brooks is a guard that can come off the bench, push it quickly on the break, get into the lane, and can knock down open shots. He has Tony Parker ability right now with a better jump shot. I'm not saying he is Parker but his game is very, very similar. Adelman likes to run a high screen and roll with his big man and a scoring guard. That's all Brooks did at Oregon. I don't think their was a faster guard in the entire draft and if Adelman likes him a lot that's fine with me because he knows what he's doing.
