Morey is a really smart guy shure but why does he think he knows more about basketball than EVERY SINGLE draft analyst and scout.... AHWROAHWOIHWFAOIFUA#*RYAOIFV learn to take some advice morons
I can't imagine you know much about Landry. Many haven't watched much of Brooks. If Morey's version of Moneyball really is different, do you think it would have landed you the pick that YOU thought was ideal? This makes no sense. You all want to call this a poor draft.. but you want to trash Morey's system because of it. But his whole system is based on getting guys that you probably wouldn't have chosen in the same spot. So either you give it a chance or you say "I want a traditional GM" and call this a failed draft. CAN't have it both ways yet! Let's wait and see how the players are!
Folks what do you expect? Half court is out, soft fancy schmancy is in. First baby step in the master plan. Welcome to the era of coach @. Think outside of Jeff's box. F regardless
How do you grade a draft or an off-season on the first day? If anything history's taught us that looking back a lot of so-called studs were duds and a lot of steals were made later in the draft. You needed an option for "To Be Determined".
I gave a D, for the hope that they could pull off a trade and get us some real players. However, second thought, what can we get with two unheard-of guards?
They won't drop a little cash on PHX to move ahead of the Jazz to get Almond who basically makes Head expendable and gives you some cushion in case Bonzi flakes. The tell us that #26 won't contribute this year yet they think we need to be ecstatic over another under sized player. A player who's the same size and quickness as someone already on the roster...only, the draft pick costs 3x as much as JLIII. If #26 isn't going to play and the Spurs have a nose for late round talent, why in the hell don't they stash Splitter in Europe for another season? Another team doing well with late round picks...the Mavs take Hollinger's favorite Fazekas. The Rockets....Landry. I'm underwhelmed. $Ball strikes again. F
I'm fairly lost as well. We've now got about 18 different point guards (although presumably, someone's gotta be moved in a deal of SOME kind) and now power forwards that no one's even heard of? I haven't been a big fan of Morey's moneyball deal either. What exactly does this guy do except make bad draft picks based on tandi computers? Aside from some Morey bashing, Landry's stat's aren't all that bad with 18 ppg and 9+ rpg. That being said, the guy's ****ing 6'8 and even that might be stretching it a little bit. Hell we've got Chuck Hayes at 6'6, is there a real need for someone 2 inches taller and with a little more upside? Aaron Brooks? All I know is the guy played a decent QB for the saints for the first few seasons, but he's really tapered off since. I really fail to see the value of having a player try to make the transition from NFL QB to NBA PG. C+ until these guys see the floor.
hmmm... You'd be hard pressed to prove that the college league's are stronger than the Australian league... Go and get a tape of any 'Australia v Team USA' game and you'll notice that the Australians don't mind a bit of physical play. Having said that, most of the Australian players are far too unathletic to play NBA (proven year after year by the fact that none of them do...) and one of Newley's strengths would be his athleticism (as compared to the slugs he is playing against) If he's quick enough to keep in front of people then he might be ok, but i predict he'll do well to make the roster this season.
I hope to god they turn out to be ballers but there is no way you can say that he didn't reach for both brooks and landry. and can you really say that we needed a speedy undersized guard? it will only make sense if there are more trades to come. that being said...he gets a D.
