It was unexpected for Young to be there. And even more surprising for Richardson to be there.

But the choice was actually between AR and Skoronski who was also not expected. With the opportunity there, I chose to mitigate injury concerns of Young with the upside potential of Richardson. This would eliminate at least two QBs from the expected 3 QBs to make the Roster. But it's worth it, even if we eat a couple of contracts. I would retain Keenum as the veteran presence.

But yes, I am hedging my bets and hoping for lightning to strike. While I don't agree with the valuation of QBs, drafting good ones is the best way to accumulate potential Draft or Trade value.

You are free to discuss or not discuss the simulations in this separate thread. I'm just choosing to not clutter up the primary draft thread which focuses on pundit mocks and speculation. I know it's hard to recognize consideration in a world of ridicule.

    4/21 Draft Lounge

    1-4 Will Anderson ED(LB)
    1-5 Tyree Wilson ED(LB)
    1-20 Anthony Richardson QB
    1-21 Bijan Robinson RB
    2-33 John Michael Schmitz OC

Now this is it until the 5th round having used the picks to move up. But I would LOVE THIS.

    OFFENSE

QB Richardson will be raw, but highest ceiling
RB Bijan is a young QB's best friend
OC Schmitz is NFL ready at a position of weakness.

    DEFENSE

Anderson and Wilson both play CB/ED like Stingley, but I think Demeco can figure out how to use the talent.
It should immediately improve us on both sides of the ball and all but Schmitz will have a 5th year Option by being 1st round picks. So there's time to gell.

    OL

LT Tunsil Best in the business
    LG Kenyon Green
    C John Michael Schmitz C
    RG Shaq Mason
    RT Tytus Howard

    QB Richardson
    RB Robinson
    RB2 Pierce
Upgrades at other positions through FA and returning Injred give reason for optimism.

I've been using the NFL Mock Draft Simulator for the last few weeks. Here's one that isn't too realistic, especially given all the trades, but fun to think about:

    4. Bryce Young QB (would take at 2 IRL)
    17. Nolan Smith Edge
    26. Zay Flowers WR
    34, Dalton Kincaid TE
    45. Anton Harrison OT(more likely to go top 20 than fall out of 1st round IMO)
    65. Jack Campbell ILB
    70. Luke Wypler OC
    111. A.T. Perry WR
    126. Eli Ricks CB
    155. Kendre Miller RB
    158. Dorian Williams OLB
    179. Kobie Turner DL
    217. Jake Haener QB
    252. Jon Gaines OC/OG

    4/24 NFL MOCK

    30 Calijah Kancey DL
    42 Hendon Hooker QB
    48 Jahmyr Gibbs RB
    53 Adetomiwa Adebawore ED
    176 Brandon Joseph S

2024 1sts added to HOU and CLE - Most will be top 15.
    ARI
    IND
    SEA
    DET
    CHI 1 (CHI)
    CHI 2 (CAR)
    PHI
    MIA

TEN First Round Picks in 2024
    plus others in later rounds.

    4 Will Anderson EDGE
    14 Jaxon Smith-Njigba WR
    28 Bijan Robinson RB
    35 Brian Bresee DT
    41 Michael Mayer TE
    46 Hendon Hooker QB
    62 Jack Campbell ILB
    63 Joe Tippman OC
    96 Jonathan Mingo WR
    105 Eli Ricks CB
    111 YaYa Diaby DE
    126 Andrew Vorhees OG
    147 Warren McClendon OT
    176 Dee Winters LB
    188 Dorian Thompson Robinson QB

I'm not a fan of Bijan at 12 like most are on here, but would not have a problem trading up if he was there in the late 1st to secure that 5th year option.

I like it but the Texans don’t want that many rookies

Yeah, anything over 12 is overkill. We don't really need 2 receivers or 2 off ball LBs. TE/RT/DT/CB/RB/LB is probably more of a BPA for the Texans in this draft.

Do think we need multiple DL, 1 WR with either elite speed or the ability to be a WR/high end WR2 to stretch the field, a center, and if available, a worthy franchise QB. I would expect a few of the late picks will be consolidated for a trade up or 2 giving us 9-10 rookies.

When you have as many needs to upgrade as we do, a dozen still isn't enough.

That's what FA is for. You need impact players on both sides of the ball.

Made this one more realistic to what I feel we will target vs. trading for best possible outcome.
    Trades:
    Indy 1-4, Indy 1-35, Indy 2024 1st rounder for Hou 1-2, Hou 6-203
    NO 2-40, NO 3-71 for Hou 2-33+ Cle 2024 4th
Consolidated 201+188 for move up in 5th and 6th

    4 Will Anderson Edge
    12 Jaxon Smith-Njigba WR
    35 Adetomiwa Adebawore DE/DT
    40 Keion White DE/Edge
    65 Luke Wypler OC
    71 Daiyan Henley LB
    73 Clark Phillips III CB
    104 Zacch Pickens DT
    141 Jaxson Kirkland OG/OT
    174 Keaton Mitchell RB
    230 Ryan Hayes OT
    259 Blake Whiteheart TE

I think there will be a concerted effort to upgrade the front 7, especially the DL in both the short term and long term, as the 49ers were keen to do. Phillips will be a great slot corner. On offense, let's get a playmaker at WR ready for whoever the franchise QB will be and shore up the OL depth as well as add another good blocking option at TE. Mitchell adds a much needed speed element to the backfield.
