Truth. This happened to my boss a few months back. Downtown blows. I don't even leave the office during the day because I am disgusted everywhere I look.
Downtown's not horrible. There are plenty of good restaurants for my secretary to pick up lunch to bring back to me.
Yup. She was offered a very high corporate job for Macy' s after they bought Foleys but she didn't want to live in Atlanta. I don't blame her. Lol@Texxx. Always makes me laugh. I dig downtown at night, but I know the roads and usually give the cab guy directions and ****.
Treebeards = best lunch ever. Pretty cheap, too. As far as dinner and drinks, Andalucia (Pavilions) is best tapas in the city, imo. Luis Scola was a regular.
I used to go to Foley's Downtown during the 1950's with my grandmother. I spent Friday night with her and we would watch wrestling, hosted by Paul Boesch, on the tube, then in the morning we'd ride the bus Downtown to Foley's, shop, and eat lunch. Good memories for me. I can vividly recall Blacks riding in the back of the bus, which in itself certainly isn't a "good" memory, but the experience was highly educational, and like much else during that era, something I've never forgotten. Foley's Downtown was a great store back in the day, and during Christmas the toy department was huge. While I could care less about Macy's, I do regret the loss of that building as a department store. Yet another bit of Houston's history bites the dust.
Treebeards is great, although the timing is key. Bombay Pizza is also one of my lunch favorites. Indian & Italian, all in one meal? Can't pass it up.
I have a buddy that was at Foley's. They offered him a job at Federated but he decided not to take it.
