I have a lot of important messages on my gmail account, and also on a yahoo account. I have sorted/saved in different folders etc. What I would like to do is to create a hard drive copy of all of those messages to save them for future reference. I would appreciate any advice on the best/easiest way to do this, or if it's even possible to begin with.

    TIA...

I understand your need or desire for backup, but why for a Gmail or Yahoo account when it's stored for free?

I guess you could always download them into Outlook and then select the export option, but it's frustrating and time consuming (for me, since I've had to do it recently; incompatibility is a pain in the ass).

I would like to eventually close down those accounts, but would also like to have a hard copy of those hundreds of messages I have 'stored' under each account. Nevertheless, the 'why' is really irrelevant, I am just looking for tips on how to do it either through those e-mail clients or through a third party program...whichever is easier.

I wish the various e-mail clients offered that 'export messages' option as a matter of standard practice, alas it doesn't seem like they do, which is annoying and difficult to comprehend but likely self-serving (i.e. they want people to store those messages on their servers as opposed to somewhere else, perhaps for marketing/data mining purposes).

    Tiger,

Forward all your emails to me. I will cut and paste 'em on a Word document named "Tiger talks dirty", store the file in a flash drive, and then send the drive to you.

I never knew Eldrick posted on clutchfans.

But anyway, setting up the account in Outlook/Thunderbird and creating a PST/Mozilla Equivalent file and storing those emails there is the simplest way, but probably way time consuming.

I'm too lazy to look up other options, but this one will work.

What sort of illicit pursuit are you partaking in this time, friend?

Best chill, Zboy, or Juwanaman will have to go 'ol' skool' on yo arse!

In a fit of rage and utter despair, Zboy hired me a few months ago to attempt and find any 'incriminating' evidence which could possibly link Juwan Howard to shady elements of the NBA netherworld. You see, Zboy is convinced that Juwan has colluded with professional extortionists in forcing NBA owners into repeatedly handing him lucrative contracts, not to mention actual playing time which Zboy finds completely unjustifiable. Thus far, we have been unable to come up with any evidence beyond the circumstantial and purely coincidental. Since I first took on this case, other aggrieved NBA fans have come forward...we are thinking of pursuing a class action settlement.

Connect to the GMail account using a mail reader like Outlook and download the messages. You'll have them in an Outlook file (.pst) then.

You can do the same with Yahoo, but they charge a fairly cheap yearly fee to connect and download using POP3/email readers.

If these sound ok, then just Google - there are tons of sites that show you how this is done, and it's simple.
