Damn I remember mine! I didn't go to mine because I was avoiding this one ugly chic who was all over me and kept asking so I had to just not go because if I do, all her friends would see me there and probably all my friends would think I'm a jerk. Anyways the next year I was asked by this girl I haven't seen since middle school and she just totally asked me out. HOLY SCHMITT was she HAWT! I was all up all ova dat ho! I took lots of pictures of her but I lost it when I moved. I don't know what the hell her prom's theme was but I do remember some dude dressed in black trash bag. It was somewhere out in the boonies in the corners of the town that nobody knew life existed. I didn't get to bump her cus her dad gave me like a 30 minute interview when I went to pick her up and scared the shiznit outta me. Why are dads so mean? Doesn't he know that I'll wear a condom? It's not like I'll plant my baby in her.
disco biscuit...havent heard that one in awhile! NICE!!! Oh the memories.....he's referring to XTC. Memorial '92....went with the GF, who wasn't into the tomfoolery that my buds and I were....hence, no things went bump in the night for me.....I believe it was at the Omni Hotel off of Eldridge? The school officials were extra anal because my class was the class to have their graduation cancelled in the middle of the ceremony due to our "class president" pulling a used condom out of his pocket to present to the principal as he accepted his diploma....ugh... I think the legendary 80s/90s cover band the Argyles performed....utterly forgettable.
I remember that.....I graduated in 94 but was there in 92. That was some funny sh*t. What was that dudes name again?
Lamar '86. Didn't go to the prom. Took my girlfriend down to the beach that night instead. Don't remember if I got any. The prom wasn't a big deal for me b/c at Lamar there were girls' social clubs (like mini-sororities) that threw several formals a year, that were just like proms and I had already been to a bunch of those before my senior year. Did other public High Schools have these mini-sororities/fraternities?
I remember mine... no gf, so I went with a friend. Bad Mutha Goose was the band and I got up on stage and played bass with them for a few minutes.
Yup. Bellaire had what was called "Ingenue." Basically the same idea. Went to all of those with the same girl. Then we broke up during Sping Break. Found my new prom date while having a few drinks in the Parking lot outside XCess. We went to prom and the after prom party, and then headed to Galveston. I think we had about 20 couples, so we rented a bus. Got some. First and only time with that girl, too. She was a fox. We went out several times before and after the prom, but never went all the way again. We still see her out every now and again. She still looks alright, but looks a little worn. She did the drug culture thing for a while.
I was too poor to consider seriously going , way too quiet and shy, and also heavily into church* ...Instead of prom I helped set up then stayed at the church sponsored beach house, of course created to give the clean living people the alternative away from the hijinks. A bunch of the popular people I only partly associated with and their cronies attended later (most of after being at the "bad" beach houses and afterparties, that is...) I actually was into finding salvation through the word and all that*...While they were gabbing it up with each other about all the events, the votes and cool stuff, I was off to the side by myself reading chapters in the bible* There was a mix between the prom-themed people but not so much the church themed, and the strictly church theme (me) and not the prom theme, so I had a very awkward time of it. And really had no business being there... I don't regret not going to prom though. I saw alot what it was about - optimisms for the guys coming up empty, too costly and exhausting a process for not quite enough; name recognition and honoring the usuals; The pedestalizing and princess'ing of the girls (further conditioning them for sense of entitlement)..kinda joking about the last one, but even then going to church, i mean...I aint spending money on a girl to be just my friend now.. *= at THAT TIME
Fatty why don't you make your age usefull and start a thread about the great Houston clubs of the late 80's and early 90's. i.e. 6400, Decadance, DV8, 2826, Bayou Mama's, etc.... Take us down memory lane.
Damn. You remember the club's names better than I do. I recall Beach Rock Bar, Network, Detour, Crush Bar, Avalon, Yucatan liquor stand. That's all I can come up with off the top of my head.
