He looks like a poor-man's Dirk. The way he moves, his drives to the hoop, his fadeaway, even his shooting form are EXACTLY like Dirk's. The only problem is Dirk is 7'0'' while McBuckets is 6'8". That doesn't mean this guy couldn't be instant, and I mean, INSTANT, offense off the bench though.
Taller Steve Novak. If Rudy T were still coaching he'd trade anyone except Howard and Harden to draft him in the top 10
Novak is two inches taller than him. He's a much more well rounded scorer. He's somewhere between a 6'8" Redick and a 6'8" Jimmer. He'll be a great shooter off the bench for years. He should model his game after Ryan Anderson in the NBA.
Comparisons to Morrison make sense: * 6' 8" * kinda slow * volume shooter * about 20 ppg for college career * Smallish private school program * primary option * last name starts with M But McDermott actually shoots a much better percentage, both year-to-year and cumulative than Morrison ever did, especially from 3. And McDermott rebounds a bit more as well (but only a couple of board per game).
I don't understand how someone that is supposed to play in the nba has only 14 blocks and 34 steals in 4 years (4570 minutes).
That is pretty alarming. Steals and blocks have very high correlation to NBA success as it is an indicator of athleticism. In Dougie Fresh McBuckets' case, the lack of blocks are especially scary as a big man. Even Adam Morrison had 66 steals and 35 blocks in 2908 minutes.
McDermott is not a volume shooter. He is very efficient with his shots. He will bea surprise starter in the NBA and one of the 5 best players in his draft class. McDermott would be the ideal spread 4 man for us if he were a Rocket.
McDermott is nothing special by NBA standards. He'll easily be one of the biggest defensive liabilities on the court. These Dirk and Bird comparisons are asinine.
Adam Morrison was a better prospect, that's why he was drafted #3. I really don't see Doug's potential. Way too short and slow. He's on par with Ryan Kelly and Kyle Singler.
Right now a lot of mocks have him going top 15. There is no way we can acquire him. I wonder why not one mock has Luke Hancock being selected at all. I would love for the Rockets to get him. He kinda reminds me a little bit of Chandler Parsons with his ball handling and shooting.
White players are often undervalued in drafts and savvy GMs can exploit this perception bias. As an example, Chandler Parsons was the SEC player of the year as a 6'9" slashing forward, but he lasted until the 2nd round because of incorrect concerns about his athleticism. Jeremy Lin is another example of this phenomenon. Morey is the type of GM who uses statistics to eliminate bias.
stats? unathletic white guy: 14 blocks, 34 steals in 4 years compared to: Parsons: 42 blocks, 129 steals in 4 years Lin: 70 blocks, 225 steals in 4 years
58.7% on 2-point shots 45.8% on 3-point shots 83.1% on free-throw shots as his team's #1 offensive option and the focal point of every defense they played against.
He'll be on of the top 5 players in his draft class for his career in the NBA. He has the #1 skill that gives NBA players the greatest value. SHOOTING! And he has it in spades.
