This is kinda like stating the obvious, of course when Tmac is in the game it will relieve Yao of some defensive attention and vice versa. With No Tmac why wouldnt they double all the time thats the point of having an inside out combo.
WHAT AN IDIOT TO EVEN RUN THIS THREAD...WATCH THE PHEONIX GAME....YAO ALWAYS GETS DOUBLE TEAMED...SAN ANTONIO JUST LET OUR GUARDS STAND WIDE OPEN AND CHUCKED UP 3 AFTER 3, YAO HAD LE 35 ANF THE GUARDS WERE JUST ATROCIOUS.....IF YOU ARE THIS STUPID...Y BTTER GET YOUR MEMORY CHECKED....I`M GLAD AM A WORKAHOLIC....AS YOUR PROBABLY HOME BY THE TIME I GET ON THE ROADS.....NO...YAO WAN`T DOUBLE-TEAMED HE WAS TRIPLE AND QUAD-TEAMED....WHO WOULD YOU COVER ON THIS ROSTER BESIDES YAO.....ALSTON.....BRICK THROWER...LOOK AT HIS 3%...DITTO FOR BOWEN, AND ...YOU GET THE IDEA.....NOT EVEN WORTH MY TYPING ENERGY ANYMORE!!!!
Take a look at the championship years. When teams doubled and tripled teamed Hakeem he would dish it out to the perimeter shooters and each and every point that they put in counted. Were Kenny Smith, Sam Cassell, Mario Elie great defenders? Nope. But as long as they hit their shots, they made a difference no matter how many points the opposition's guard scored. That's called being great roles players/ X-Factors. The reasoning that Pro-Redick Rockets fans put out comes from what Hakeem and Co. did. The role players he had weren't the most athletic nor were they complete players, but they got open and played smart and made shots when it counted. These shots will be the same shots that Redick will have an opportunity to knock down. No Facts, No Percentages, No Graphs, No Stats will back up how important an accurate shooter is to a team. As for Redick not being the player we should get, that's still up in the air. But one thing's for sure: It doesn't matter how many points our SG gives up (to a certain extent), as long as he can contribute by knocking down open jumpers that Yao and Tracy provides he's done his job. Like I said before, I rather have our SG negate the opposition's 2 point for point than to have what was happening last year when the opposition's 2 was ripping ours apart while our SG scores like 3 points.
If there's no fact that can backup the importance of an accurate shooter, what in the world are you basing your argument on?
the main reason that yao got so many pts is because he said he doesn't fear double team anymore. teams still use it but its not effective, so they stopped trying.
Actually they never stopped trying, they just mixed up the defense on him a bit, but Yao is consistently double and triple teamed....every game. DD
I'm basing it on this: I know you like to use stats durvasa and all that, but I was merely trying to point out to anitasri that sometimes stats don't tell the whole story. Maybe I got carried away on my little rant but accurate shooters like Kenny Smith (Game 1 1995 NBA Finals), Mario Elie (Game 7 1995 WCF Finals), etc DO make a difference.
Hey man I agree with you that Yao got doubled or tripled most of the time. But I also think you need to attend some anger management classes.
The last part of your rant- clearly admits the fact that +/- differential whether for players or for the position does matter. I could care less if the SG is reddick- my point was simple if Redick is your choice, you need to consider what he will give up against people like Josh Howard or a Many Ginobli ( and almost every SG in the Conference!) It is not good enough you score- you have to score MORE than your opponent at that position. Numbers lay bare anecdotal Myths- like the one's you have. Kind of like the "emperor has no clothes" Deal- it is embarassing, but it is the truth, and you my friend cannot handle the truth ( not my line of course!)
steddinot here is your quote I know you like to use stats durvasa and all that, but I was merely trying to point out to anitasri that sometimes stats don't tell the whole story. Maybe I got carried away on my little rant but accurate shooters like Kenny Smith (Game 1 1995 NBA Finals), Mario Elie (Game 7 1995 WCF Finals), etc DO make a difference. Unquote Those shots of Mario, Kenny and Eddy will remain etched- that is the drama, the memories. I cant help but feel nostalgic. But you can bet top dollar- that the numbers would have given you the same info- when not many people were giving Rockets a shot ( remember Barkley thought he had a ring- till Mario went berserk with that kiss!) Morey- is going to bring a different angle- I know those of you who are serious Ball Players would dismiss this- but the numbers dont lie- it is not everything, but there a lot of urban myths that can be laid bare. May be you should look at the numbers- may give you more insigth into the game!
