Its good in a way and bad. McGrady basically made Chuck Hayes the player he is. ( kinda ). Having Dorsey and McGrady on the court together would be lethal. 3/9 so what. Its not like they'll be asking him to be the go to guy in the low post. We have Scola for that. Even Landry. Hayes starts and Dorsey can come off the bench and spell Hayes. Rebounds are what we need and Dorsey can be that Rebound guy for us.
Chuck Hayes stuck because he played very well in his initial games with the Rocket. http://www.chron.com/CDA/archives/archive.mpl?id=2006_4047526 [rquoter] Rockets forward Chuck Hayes, just three days into his NBA career, looked like an All-Star on Friday, Bulls coach Scott Skiles said. That might have come as a surprise to the Bulls or even most Rockets. Juwan Howard, however, said he's seen enough to believe Hayes could play as he did. Hayes had 12 points and 13 rebounds in his second game. "That was a great performance, but with his rebounding ability it doesn't surprise me," Howard said. "I noticed he has a great tenacity to get the basketball in training camp. I knew he had a high basketball IQ." Hayes was thrilled but indicated he was not satisfied. He cited missing a late coverage assignment and allowing an uncontested dunk. "I'm just soaking up this moment right now, just reflecting on what happened, and playing the game over in my head, thinking about what I could have done better defensively," Hayes said. "When coach (Jeff) Van Gundy brought me in, he told me my main job is to defend and rebound. That's my mindset." [/rquoter] Just before the end of his 10-day contract: http://www.chron.com/CDA/archives/archive.mpl?id=2006_4050219 [rquoter] Hayes states case Rockets forward Chuck Hayes, with one game left on his 10-day contract, continued to make a case to stick around. He made all four of his shots, getting 11 points, eight rebounds, two steals and two blocked shots in 28 minutes. "I don't want to get carried away," Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said when asked if Hayes will be signed for the remainder of the season. "He can play in the NBA, certainly. But he has to prove it just like everybody else that he deserves to be here. I like him a lot. If he does what he's done, yeah he'll be on our team. But he can't afford to take steps back, nor do I expect him to. That's not his personality. "I think I've made it abundantly clear I like what he's done so far. I liked him from the summer. I liked him from training camp. I'm not going to jump on the table, though. Power forwards in this league should defend and rebound. He does." In his five games, Hayes is averaging 8.2 rebounds and 7.2 points in an average of 23.4 minutes. "I really do think Chuck will not be out-competed," Van Gundy said. [/rquoter] And this is what Jeff Van Gundy said about him when he was signed for the rest of the season: http://www.chron.com/CDA/archives/archive.mpl?id=2006_4051810 [rquoter] Forward Chuck Hayes thought he had a good chance of landing a second 10-day contract. He was wrong. The Rockets did not consider it. They instead signed Hayes, 6-6, for the rest of the season Saturday and then lamented it was too late to have had him around for the first 36 games. "Not that he doesn't make mistakes, but he's a good screener, smart defender, strong with the ball," coach Jeff Van Gundy said. "My only regret is we made a huge mistake not having him here all along. We liked him from summer league. We liked him in training camp. It's my mistake we didn't have him all the way through. Just with him we would have won a couple more games." [/rquoter] And: http://www.chron.com/CDA/archives/archive.mpl?id=2006_4052964 [rquoter] Averaging 24 minutes in seven games going into Monday, Hayes has put up 8.3 rebounds and 7.7 points per game on 55.9 percent shooting. In eight minutes on Sunday, Swift did not have a point, rebound or blocked shot. "Chuck is our first big guy off the bench," Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said. "After that, it will depend on matchups. To me, Chuck has earned what he's gotten. Whether he can sustain it - really, playing time up front is there to be had. They know exactly around Yao and Tracy (McGrady) what we need at every position. Those willing and able to provide what we need will get a chance to play." [/rquoter] Dorsey has had his opportunities in training camp and in practice to demonstrate to coaches he's worth playing games. To show he knows how to defend effectively. Chuck did that, undrafted without a guaranteed contract. There's a big difference between the two. Then, there's a matter of depth, which JVG references there at the end. Dorsey's got Scola, Landry, and Hayes ahead of him. Hayes had Howard, Swift, and Lonny Baxter.
DeAndre Jordan measured 6'9.75"(w/o shoes)/6'11"(w/shoes). He's still better than 6'2-6'3" Hayes though.
Where are you getting this 6'2-6'3" measurement? http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Chuck-Hayes-110/ Draft Express shows his pre draft measurements to be between 6'5.5 and 6'6.75.
Yeah this is what I was looking at, probably form put backs. Stats dont say everything DD, you should know that. If he can raise his FT percentage he might have a chance in the real courts.
I watched the game and I was very impressed by Anderson. Vipers are going to play tonight. You guys can watch it free online on "NBA Futurecast" at 830 ET.
I did say kinda. I mean pick n rolls with chuck hayes and still having confidence in him even though he kept missing wide open layups. How many other players would have kept passing him the ball. Hayes wasn't the greatest but he groomed into one hell of a player. Give Dorsey the same opportunity and you'll see a different side of Dorsey.
I'll bet you haven't seen Dorsey play much (including college). I'll repeat my early line about him right after he was drafted: He's a 25 year-old rookie with the mind of a 16 year-old. He's dumb as a rock and doesn't have the intelligence or maturity to focus for long periods of time. Please don't compare him to Chuck Hayes. They are so different from each other it isn't funny. Dorsey has no future in the NBA other than as a 15th man, if he's lucky. And bringing up Richard Jefferson and Rashard Lewis makes no sense at all. Don't have any idea where you are going with that. Crazy stuff.
just because mcgrady has run some p&r's with chuck and given him some assists doesn't mean he "made" chuck who he is, even in a "kinda" sense. chuck is known for all his stuff but layups. and not every discussion has to do with you idol.
Yeah I wouldn't say T-mac made Chuck who he is. Sure he got Chuck some easy looks but he has been getting some easy looks this year too he just can't make them right now.
I don't mean to be harsh but saying McGrady "made Chuck Hayes the player he is" is just silly. Get a clue guy. Chuck's defense and toughness are what "make" him a viable NBA player. McGrady had zip to do with either. I remember when McGrady said he would make Stromile Swift into an All-Star. What happened there? Dorsey would be no different except he's even more worthless than Swift.
I can't say tracy made chuck, but its not a stretch to say he helped him be effective enoough offensively to stay on the court. I'm not trying to put words in a poster's mouth, but isee what he means. Tracy spoon fed chuck for a lot of layups and to chuck's credit, he knew where to be.
