Wow, I was about to say that's ridiculously expensive until you said they were notebooks. If you don't plan on gaming at all, then I would go for the cheaper model....assuming the cpu and memory configurations are about the same.

You'd be lucky if the Radeon 9200 was able to play any of the latest games at all. The 9700 is a bit better, but you would still have trouble running something like Doom III. If gaming is not a priority, go for the cheaper setup. What are the other specs? Also, why are you going with a Sony? I'm a big fan of their products, but on laptops I think you could get more bang for your buck by going with Dell, plus their customer service is top notch.

Hmm, good points. For me I view Sony as top of the line (of course it's highly debatable).

The only problems I have with Dell is that they throw in all these great upgrades and free printers; there seems to be something off about it. I mean, I'm on a Dell desktop now that I've had for over 2 years and it works fine. The only issues I've had with it are software.

I don't truly have anything against Dell; in fact I'm still considering it (although it's more and more unlikely). The S Series Sony has the XBRITE screen which is great for watching video as it gives the 'plasma tv' look and it's easy to see if there's sun glare.

Mostly, I was looking for something ultra portable and lightweight which Sony offered. The S is 4.2 pounds. Dell has the 600m or the new 700m, but I feel the Vaio offers slightly more and better performance.

The specs on the S150 are:
    Pentium M 725 (1.60A GHz)
    XP Home
400 MHz Front Side Bus Speed
    60 GB hard drive
    Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection (b/g)
    13.3" WXGA with XBRITE™ Technology (1280x800)
    32 MB of video memory
    512MB (2 256 DDR sticks) regular memory
    3 USB 2.0 ports

The only difference between the S150 and S170 is the customization, and if I were to configure it the way I would like, then only the processor and graphics card would change:

    Pentium M 715 (1.50A GHz)
ATI Mobility RADEON 9700 with 64 MB of video memory

I could go for the 1.7A GHz, but it's $150 more; there is no 1.6 processor offered on the S170. Also, there's an option for a Celeron. Who on earth would want a Celeron with a Vaio?!?!?!?!?!

    Thanks again for the help!
