Game over, impressive defensive effort by DMo on Slovenia's perimeter players (Dragic)

Lol, yeah, but he's a limited offensive player, nowhere near the level of Goran. He's not that hard to stop.

I think D-mo did a great job defensively b/c he has to show out to defend small guys and he barely lose his position

how can we let him do what he goods at when howard needs the lane for his postups and not having dmos defenders cheating in on him ? Harden needs the lane to drive in at his will.. And our system is a 3 point shooting with the most taken in the NBA ?

Better question: why does Howard need the lane for his postups? Even better question: why is he posting up at all? Post-game isn't his forte, PnR is.

Just like were not a great 3 point shooting team (even though we shoot a lot of those), we need to make the defense honest. If DH makes 50% of his post ups, that is more than enough reason to make him play in the paint.

First half Dmo play was really pathetic, but in second half he played great, especially defensively. Dont really understand why Dmo played so crappy in first half though, he didnt play defence or offense at all..

D-Mo can make mid range shots. McHale can space the floor by utilizing that.
He can come off the bench, and post up against second tier 4's and 5's.

The answer is simply because he's not good enough to be consistent. It's not that easy. The players who can dominate any competition under any circumstances are stars for a reason, and they are very rare. DMo's not that guy, unfortunately. He does, however, possess the talent to be one though. Personally, I'm just hoping he can improve enough on defense. His best fit on this team is to be a 30 minute 6th man type. But his defense can't be as porous as it has been in past years.

What makes you think that? Most good midrange shooters hit free throws at a pretty good clip (Scola, David West, 2Pat, I'm sure there are others). D-Mo so far has not.

Not to mention McHale thinks pick and pop has something to do with popsicle sticks.

Lin ran some plays for him last year, and he made them with ease.

If you're talking about floor spacing mid-range jumpers, that's at least 16-23ft. According to basketball-reference, DMo was 2 of 8 from that range last year. Perhaps you saw both of them which left an impression. Or perhaps you saw some closer shots. But at closer than 15ft, that doesn't exactly space the floor for anyone as it's still near the paint area.

Yep, DMo has been as inconsistent in his mid range jumpers as he's been in his 3 pointers. I've been thinking for 2 years that he needs to refine his mechanics, if you look at him closely he's not doing always the same shot at all, sometimes you see full arm extension, sometimes not. Sometimes you see the ball rolling in the air, sometimes not. Sometimes arched shot, sometimes flat... Same with FTs. Still waiting for that change that could raise his effectiveness to another level (reliable).

I like what his coach did with him yesterday. He punished his lack of effort at 1st half by benching him at the start of the 2nd (only starter benched). Jankunas did it well. Then Donatas came out to play and he played really hard. His coach stayed with him until the end of the game -even benching Valanciunas before him- because he was really helping the team doing such a great job defensively.

Motiejunas shows that he's capable of being a nice defender when he gives 100% effort. Unfortunately he has bad habits of relaxing and not playing always at top insensity. And he neither has the experiencie of a veteran to dose his effort and staying intense at specific actions (rebounding, post defense...), so he either is really helping the team or he's doing nothing out there.

At least he is inconsistent with his effort; others like Harden are very consistent at giving a ****. So I have more hopes with Motiejunas at expecting a regular good defensive level.

Dmo played really good defense today again (vs Nene and Splitter), his offense was lackluster though.
