he hates it from a defensive standpoint...from having to play CF with the hill.

personally, i think that's ridiculous because it so rarely comes into play.

Lance mentioned something during the All-Star weekend when it was in Houston about the ballpark in typical Berkman fashion. He says the dumbest things sometimes, but I think since this was to the national media, it got some air play (as opposed to when it's just the local beat writers covering the team).

If I'm not mistaken, he was instructed to not say anything bad about MMP by management after that incident. I'm looking for an exact quote, and will post either his words or the report of his reprimand if/when I can find it.

This has been discussed before,so I believe there might be some legs to it.On the surface,a no brainer....depending on how much they want.I'd give up Jimerson and Wandy without a second thought. And probably Pence OR Hirsch too.
    Go Astros!

what is jones' contract? he's a year younger than berkman. having those two guys achor your line-up for the next several years... wow. and my guess is that jones, who i can't remember ever missing significant time, could move to the corner to prolong his career; same for berkman if you could settle him in at first base.

yeah, you're absolutely right. i just prefer nailing down top-notch starting pitching.

i had to look up willis, just to more intimately familiarize myself with him... nice year in '05. but between the two, i'd still prefer jones. amazingly, jones is only five years older than willis, who has all of three full seasons in the bigs to jones' 11. jeez! they must have called him up when he was sperm... i mean, my word.

i just don't think willis is as much a priority as jones. or, rather, i think a stick is needed more than an arm.

i hear ya. and frankly, i'm not arguing. i'd be ecstatic if we got either one. i'm just concerned about starting pitching next year and beyond.

Because it has too big a center field. It exposes the fact that he's went from the best defensive center-fielder to the bottom third or so of starting CF's in range. Andruw Jones may be the most over-rated player in baseball.

The Dontrelle Willis rumor is the definition of a no-brainer.

Ah yes, I forgot he's a center-fielder. Well if Biggio could play out there then I don't Jones would have a problem. And yeah the hill barely comes into play.

I was watching a game the other day (don't know if it was ESPN or TBS), and they talked about how Smoltz was saying he would be fine with a trade. The announcer then said that he had talked to both Andruw and Chipper Jones about the idea of being traded and both told him that they would probably just retire rather than go play for another team and not Bobby Cox. For Chipper I could defnitely see this, but it surprised me to hear that Andruw was the same way. Who knows how accurate that is or if its just a statement by Andruw because he doesn't want to be traded.

    LMAO! nice one!

i don't recall berkman ever bashing mmp but i do remember him saying that it actually hurts his homerun numbers because he naturally hits them more toward center. obviously that's a problem here. anyways i think he has the crawford boxes figured out.

Yep, even the GM who wisely made no moves last year which may have adversely affected the eventual National League champions.

    I don't get you guys.

One GM gets heat for making a trade.

Another GM gets heat for not making any trades.

Really? Cause the Marlins traded away Beckett for nothing.

Don't forget that Jimerson was the most outstanding player of the 2000 College World Series. He played for none other than....Miami. Maybe he's still on their minds down there in South Florida.

If this is remotely true, the Astros have to do it. Wandy, Jimerson, & Pence would be fine with me. I wouldn't want to give up Hirsh because of the probability that we have to replace 2 spots in the rotation next year...Clemens and Pettitte. I wouldn't mind throwing Luke Scott in there as well if need be.
