I'm team 'Trade EGO' but we shouldn't assume he wants out. Some Athletes don't care that much about a championship, sure, it would be nice, but he's making near 20 million a year, he might not care that much or have other priorities. Some people don't like getting up and having to move or set down roots in a place and just don't want to leave. I don't know, I've never gotten the sense that he has this burning desire to leave. This FO has been good at honoring trade requests and has any really come from him? It seems like he's on the trading block because the Rockets know he's not in their future plans.
Well yes, if you can get picks from the worst team in the NBA, you do that--but Ted Stepien isn't walking through that door. However, if all offers are more or less equal, send him to the best situation.
OP should just say these timeless words: Eric Gordon is a consummate professional. I hope he retires a Rocket.
As long as it's in square brackets, it's probably a good idea... and it'll probably make the majority of our peers feel safe.
Dude, trade the guy. Out of pure respect trade the guy. He's been a great professional to play his heart out every night and try to win. The man deserves to play for a contender not here. How awful would it be to keep him here and deny him a chance to get a ring in his career? Trade him and trade him to a contender.
I get the EGO love as he is a real professional who gives 100% and isn’t a diva. He’s also an underrated player with a well rounded game. But honestly I clicked on the thread to hear a rationale for not trading him and didn’t really get one from the OP other than, “the team will fall apart”. granted our team will be worse off this year if we trade Gordon, but we get value for him, we give him a chance to catch on with a contender, and Josh Christopher gets more minutes. We are the 3rd worst team in the west. There’s is no way to go but up. Trading EGO isn’t going to make or break our season. And I think we all have to be concerned with the injury risk given the history, age and contract. It’s time to move on from Eric Gordon. It should have happened last year frankly. every day we don’t trade him we just increase the likelihood that he’ll get hurt and have no value. How is that good for anyone?
Net Worth (2021) $45 million Salary (2021) $18.3 million Age 32 Date of Birth December 25, 1988 He's loaded; he will be fine. BTW tomorrow's his birthday. Trade him tomorrow aah hah hah haa!
Let's get something for him while we can. I will always appreciate Eric's contribution to some of the best Rockets seasons of all time. He seems like a really solid dude. But let's be honest, he's not going down as a franchise legend. Get a pick from a good team where he can contend again, and we all win.
What a nauseating thought that there would be such a person. anyway, Gordon clearly wants to leave watch his first 4-5 interviews this season. But his nickname is relevant, he has a massive ego and believes he is a good as any star so he doesn’t mind that there’s not a better player taking shots away from him for the first time since his clippers days. Not a bad feeling and maybe you need that a little in life sometimes.
Keep Gordon. EGo is a bright spot on #3 offense and he is one of best defenders on an already putrid defense.
It is not a sin to keep him but playing him major minutes just to rack up some wins......I am not so sure.
He is one of the best shooters in the NBA who can switch, 1 though 5, and play the point. He got double teamed at the beginning of the game by the bucks. He can guard middleton and Holiday who doesn't even attempt to iso on gordon. jrue holiday makes 30 million a year and he's just as good. Kemba walker got played off the court cuz of his bad defense at 26 million a year. EG is better. Duncan robinson gets paid the same, EG is better. His salary is a bargain compared to Klay thompsons. Eric gordon's ability to switch 1-5 is something that doesn't show up in the stats. Its extremely hard to find players like that who can shoot that deep 3 ball and also drive. And his shooting won't just go away with age, as joe johnson just signed that 10 day contract at 40. If we trade EG we can't just replace him, so we only trade him for a good young player and a first or two firsts. An expiring and a middling first who may be a bust or may never be near as good as gordon ever isn't a good trade. We still need good players to compete next year and if we trade him we may be worse than this year. our defense is already bad and who will box out the fives? We could end up being so bad that our rookies will want out when their extension time comes. We still need to add good players around sengun/green even with gordon who isn't easily replaceable. in fact, it'll be really hard to do.
I guess Eric Gordon does not care if he is on a rebuilding team or on a nightly contender. On a bad team, he wins us couple games but without 2 legitimate Allstars next to him, his shooting only nets a Top 5 Lotto position. As many posters wished he would join a contender for a reason, it is a waste of his talents! Even if he cannot see it. This switching 1-5 does not bring results, it is quite useful though.
