The Jazz are a jumpshooting team. They dont drive to the bucket much save Williams, and he doesnt do it that often. At least in this series, Boozer gets the ball 14 feet from the bucket and shoots Jumpers more often than making post moves to the basket. Not sure his breakdowns during the season. Most of the Jazz points in the paint are rebound putbacks, fast break plays, and backdoor cuts that inherently are wide open or not attempted.

The Rockets play straight up D. They dont hack much. The only one close to that would be Hayes with his stripping ability, but due to the lack of post attempts by Boozer on Hayes, that hasnt been happening much. The Jazz play hacking D. The refs KNOW this. So the Rockets are making it pretty easy on the refs by going into the teeth of the hacking defense. But the refs arent making the calls.

The Rocket have more players attacking the basket, more players who play back to the basket, and just as many rebound putback attempts and what not. 1 in 5 Rocket fouls seem to be called, while 2 in 5 Jazz fouls seem to be called. Not that great over a quarter, but it starts to add up. And over the course of the series, its really disheartening.

McGrady attempted 4 layups in the first quarter of game 4. He was fouled all 4 times, and the shot that had the LEAST amount of contact(and honestly should have been a play-off no-call) was the one that was called. He got fouled hard on a jumper three times(only once called) and one of those was a 3.

McGrady should have had 8 to 10 more FT attempts. Now that doesnt guarantee anything, since he could miss all of them. But even at 50%, that makes the game much closer, and perhaps the Jazz playing for the tie or win down 2 in the last 12 seconds.

    That's why I said "rarely".

The referee took your point away. Point, set, match.

Ummm, what? In baseball, every umpire has their own strike zone. If a pitcher is pitching well and shows good control, they get more benefit of the doubt. Hall of Famers like Clemens or Glavine will often get a bigger strike zone than a rookie. A borderline pitch may be called a strike once and a ball the next time - despite it being the exact same pitch.

In football, holding occurs on virtually every play - its up to the ref to decide if its important enough to call. Pass interference is a judgment call as there is contact on many plays. People b**** just much in those sports.

How is basketball any different? You could call a foul on every single play since there is "contact" all the time. How would you propose defining how much contact is enough to call a foul?

it's not about our poor free throw shooting. it's freaking tough to make shots when you're getting fouled. at least if the fouls are called, we'd get a point out of it and stop the jazz from running down the court while our guys are still on the ground.

If we are getting fouled so much, and it looks like we are, then why is there not more players getting technical fouls complaining about it?

Draw attention to it......talk about it in the media, force the NBA's hand.

Nail on the head. It's not the Rockets don't get some calls their way, or that they couldn't execute in certain ways to improve their chances, but there IS a disparity in what the refs are letting the Jazz get away with and what the Rockets are generally getting away with. I see too many plays in which a Rockets player gets whistled for a soft foul while Boozer hammers Landry across both forearms and the refs let it go as a "clean block", to name just one of many examples.

Some more interesting stuff. TOTAL FOULS in last four minutes of each game for each team.

    Game 1. Rockets: 3. Jazz: 2
    Game 2. Rockets: 4. Jazz: 1
    Game 3. Rockets: 1. Jazz: 4
    Game 4. Rockets: 5. Jazz: 1

    Rockets Average: 3.25
    Jazz Average: 2

Take into account that the team that is down will intentionally foul to get the other team to the line.
