Don't think even JVG could put together 53 wins in the current western conference

JVG also said Scola was the rocky of the year. Coach RA also started Hayes over scola for a half season and let carl landry go to minor league. Morey just give landry 1 year contract which indicate morey didn't trust landry either. Both coaches are great and can see the talents and can make mistake. But coach RA just never has been with dominant center and his system is not for dominant center. If Tmac and Rafer was here, they could help RA a bitter. But they are gone.

On the contrary, whole career of Coach JVG was with dominant centers. He's good at it. Forthurmore, he and tom t developed yao a dominant center in the league. I think Nobody will deny this factor.

Maybe they sucked under JVG. Adelman has a reputation of making his players look good, so who knows how they would have played. It's not like those PFs were total scrubs at the time.

2 unknown PFs, that aren't good defensively, magically play well under Adelman. I wonder if it's a coincident.

Maybe young Ryan Bowen was given minutes to develop early on in his career. Looks like Denver slowly decreased his minutes over time until they gave up and traded him. Also, I don't think it's a coincident that Bowen has had his worse shooting years under JVG. When a perimeter player shoots 30% for a year, i'm sure he doesn't deserve more than 10 minutes, let alone any minutes. JVG played him for his defense.

IF the BIG THREE stayed healthy all year
One would have thought them a 60 win team.

so . . .with a T-mac less team [hobbled 1st half the year and then out]
    Hobbled Battier . . . .
    Hobbled Artest . . . .

Someone says this at the beginning of the year. . . you SERIOUSLY would have said. . OH YEA . .THEY SHOULD STILL WIN 60!!

    I doubt it

This is a bad thread. Why do you have to bring divisive stuff up like this for no apparent reason right before the playoffs? If this is really a "I believe RA is a good coach" thread, which I could understand and would agree with, then why focus on JVG so much? I see it as an anti-JVG thread which last I checked was very much in style *2 years ago*. At least do it in a less antagonistic manner if you want a civilized debate. My two cents.

This is what I've been saying over and over to get this simple point out there: that the GM during each Coach's time here can't be overlooked. Morey has supplied RA with players who could be starters elsewhere or even for those JVG teams.

um... this team is 5-10x more talented than whatever JVG had to work with. and yao is better now than when he was for the most part under JVG.

so no...JVG would do just as well.

    playoffs is another question.

But to actually address the topic, I think he would have done just as well since our offense to me has made an improvement, but defense has slipped a little. However, I'm not sure if Artest doesn't go crazy under JVG.

Also, unclear if we would have our current roster if JVG was still coach. I'm guessing Morey would still have had most of the control but who knows how much sway JVG really did as we get conflicting reports all the time. So to summarize is  :D  :(

trust me, JVG or any coach would prefer talent. obviously you have to earn your playing time under him b/c he's loyal to those who fought hard for him. so like with adelman, scola would not have started right away under JVG. but eventually he would.

If Gundy was still here, he would have still squeezed minutes out of Juwan Howard and no way in hell would Rafer Alston would have been traded away for a young Kyle Lowry.

Certain players were always going to be here because Gundy was loyal to them and he trusted them, even if they were falling apart. That was in his nature. You could not change that. If we are talking Chuck Hayes, dont forget that Hayes was rotting on the bench for a year before Gundy finally realized that Hayes helped out a slow footed Yao alot more than Juwan, the even more slow footed one, ever did. It took a year for Gundy to put his faith in Chuck Hayes.

During the Gundy era we have suffered some of the most embarrassing playoff losses and broken some disgraceful records. The man could only coach one end of the basket. How quickly people forget.

Add to that that his ego and short sightedness cost us Brandon Roy, I was happy to say bubye to him!!

As for the thread title..Could JVG put together 53 wins in the current Western Conference?

Without McGrady, HELL NO!! His offense was completely reliant on McGrady.

If JVG is coaching last night, he wouldn't have put Scola out there 3 mins into the 3rd quarter. He wouldn't allow the team to run up and down and not using Yao when the team is up by 14. He wouldn't AGAIN put Scola back into the 4th and getting killed by the German again. Comparing Adelman to JVG is night and day as far as coaching strategy and smartness in terms match up problem. So i am not talking about his offense better than JVG and ect...i am talking just simple strategy and counter strategy based on what players the other put on the floor. This coach don't give a damm and play and just let it flow...that is why this team lost its edge due to his mental stupidity.

I am not sure about whether JVG can win 53 games but I believed with the current team he can. But then, that is assuming he is OK with Artest and others though I am not that sure as JVG always have problems with a player or two (and put them in their dog house).

No, he would just be the kind of guy that would allow his team to get blown out by 40 points in a game 7. Mind you, he was supposed to the defense oriented coach.

The differences are in Scola, Landry, Vafer, etc. Although I think Barry would certainly get more minutes than Vafer under JVG.

Would his Offense Strategy have allowed him to get a 14 pt lead in the 1st place?

Lowry was always this good. I've seen some Grizzly games, and he's been solid so everywhere.

Bonzi didn't even play for JVG. The guy was like half a player with twice the weight. He was extremely overweight and unmotivated. I understand it's a coach's job to motivate, but Bonzi just couldn't take it. Jeff's last year here he had 52 wins. The reason for Jeff's firing is due to his failures in the playoffs against Dallas and Utah. During RA's tenure, we've had 5 wins and 6 losses versus UTAH. We've had 3 wins and 5 losses versus Dallas. Let's not act like he's doing a much better job against those teams.

I'm not saying Jeff is a much better coach than Adelman or that his firing is a mistake, but bring JVG into this. He has as much to do with the Rockets as Scott Skiles to Chicago. I agree we should keep Adelmen, and he's doing an amazing job; however, even without Tmac, this Roster is alot deeper than in the past. Tmac is not > depth off the bench.

Boki and V-SPAN sucked, which is why both are out of the NBA and their careers lasted a combined 7 seasons. BTW, Nachbar was shooting a stellar 34% from the field when JVG was evaluating whether to give him more time. Not to be outdone (in suckitude), Spanoulis shot just under 32%.

But they weren't starters. In fact, the other teams were so happy to give them up, they traded them to us, or we signed them when nobody else wanted them.

Isn't it a coincidence that Adelman has done well with these players? I can just point to Bonzi Wells who was sought after by the Hornets when he left the Rockets. Look at Bonzi now!

Yup, agree with Herb. It's a given that Adelman made Bonzi look good - so good in fact, the Hornets coveted Bonzi. Did JVG make Bonzi look good?

Yup, agree with Herb. There is no doubt JVG played Bowen for his defense. Again, nobody is giving a decent answer as to why players like Landry, Wafer, and Lowry, who were unwanted on other teams, are suddenly performing so well on the Rockets. Sadly, they refuse to accept that maybe Adelman has something to do with it.

As much as people b*tch about Adelman, they have yet to suggest a better replacement for Adelman that is available on the market.
