But, Sam I AM is 38 so this would only be good for 2 maybe 3 years. I like Sammy but would he be that KEY missing ingredient to get us to competing and then elite status? Agree a Bob Sura-esque type player would make all the difference. Problem is where the HELL is he? i really hope Aaron Brooks makes a big splash on Wed nite because, we sure as hell need a spark BIGTIME!
Frankly, I agre with the gist of your Post. We ALL need to keep in mind that no team will do a 3 or 4 for 1 deal during the season. Any 'trade scenario' concocted by any of us resident genii must be max one extra player in either direction, just one - max. BTW - I hope Heinrich stays (gets?) in Bulls doghouse. He would be an attainable (if Chi were to decide to cut ties with him) and excellent fit IMHO.
Right on the mark!!!!! Possibly this is why Coach A is at sixes and sevens trying to turn us into his Sacramento type team? How about a Ron Artest type player who gives his all every night? We could bive them Battier and Head/James + a second round pick. We must have great talent on this team because it's the players who are going to make the team work rather than good coaching making fur slipppers out of pig skin!
they need to start scola and give him a lot more plays. dude was the hero of the argentine team. and the rox are using him as a sub. he's a pretty good offensive player and all he gets are scraps. not right.
Tweak is the wrong word- As long as this team if built around Yao and Tracy it must be built as a half court team that limits possessions. To get this team to play Adelman ball will require a big upgrade at PG and a couple very good shooters like Peja, Miller, Webber, Jackson, types Those Sac guys were high BB IQ guys who could come off picks and knock down open shots and they all were good passers. Yao is a dominant half court player who can control games if the tempo is half court. Yao is not nearly effective or dominant in a motion, cutting system. Tracy in his peak can play that motion offense but there needs to be a couple other outside scoring options and a good PG for it to work because if you run the motion and Tracy is doubled he tends to become passive. Plus Tracy is older and seems to be losing his explosiveness on the offensive end, at least he is more inconsistent. The current roster would be much more successful limiting possessions and running a tempo that played half court- while regaining the strong defensive intensity they had last season. Adelman is in a fix because Yao doesn't fit his system unless you want Yao to try to become Vladi Divacs. Yao can get his 25 pts. and 10 boards and we still will lose games because there is no chemistry that places the focus on the low block. Without running the offense through the low block and forcing the tempo to half court I think we are about doing as well as we will do. No tweaking is going to make Yao and Tracy into something they are not. The first step is to get a PG on the level of at least a Mike Bibby in his prime if we are going to fully buy into the Adelman system. More effort or a hard nosed player will not change a roster that doesn't fit a system.
I agree, but I think it will take several personnel changes, OR, bye, bye Adelman and bring in a new coach. This thing is looking more and more like a square peg and a round hole. Nope, they don't fit. Post more Rhester, you are one of the best on the board.
It's actually not a bad idea. I think Payton or a player alike is what Rockets need now. Payton is a real PG and is "dirty" (Rocket players are too "clean"). But the question is, can he still play and is he still willing to play?
That would be my ideal player, but I think someone correctly pointed out that the Maloofs do not want to help out Adelman. But, if we can relieve them of a cap hit.....I understand the Udrih has been doing very well there. Maybe they will let Bibby go? DD
I think the best trade we can do is to get either artest or bibby. i prefer bibby over artest. bibby is not going to be the way he used to played. he will be a step slower, but he can pass and shoot.
a 3:1? Maybe the salaries would work out but no way the Rockets pull the trigger on that one. Bibby is too expensive and getting older. No guarantee that the surgery on his thumb has affected his shot either. Wouldn't that be something to trade out those three guys to bring Bibby in only to discover that he can't shoot either lol.
I agree with your logic if not the players. Here are the small tweaks IMO would bring the rewards we seek: Luther Head + second rounder for Gerald Green of Minn. Steve Novak for Josh McRoberts of Portland. Shane Battier for Ricky Davis of Miami in a 3-way where Shane goes to Sacramento, Artest goes to Miami and Davis comes to Houston. Miami can send a first or second rounder to Sacramento for sweetener. With those three trades the Rockets will be taller, faster and better defensively as well as offensively.
I think Kidd and Bibby are worth going after. Do I think it will happen? No. This is not the answer. Our problem is that our offense doesn't have any dynamic to it. Feeding Yao in the low or high post may make us slightly better, but it won't make us an elite team. And it won't get us out of the first round.
Teams can shut Yao down by doubling him on the block in order for Yao to be effective someone has to hit some shots around him to give him some space. That does not mean they have to camp at the 3pt line or that the motion offense won't work, just that we need players that commit to running ....on offense AND defense. MOVE without the EVER LOVING BALL You listening TMac? !!! DD
I hope to god you're right, but I don't think you are. I think the best case scenario is a taller Earl Boykins.
OK but if this "guy" is locked away in some other coach's doghouse, then why would we want him here? If he's really good - for him to be the answer to this team's current problems, that would imply that the other coach has somehow seriously misjudged a talented player at his disposal and I find that highly unlikely to say the least. And I doubt that getting another yet another aging veteran is the answer since all reports point to the need for them to get more athletic, faster and younger. Naw, at this point I think we'll just have to let this thing run its course and then take stock of where they are and what needs to be done once their season finally ends.
