I've wondered this myself in the 5% of time watching play and NOT being frustrated with him. He usually seems to get better as the season goes along...so I'm kinda wondering if he's just chillin to start the season and he'll gradually start to turn it up as we go along. I still don't think that's really the case, and of course it's B.S....but it has crossed my mind.
Using the OP's basketball logic, if you give Smush Parker enough chances, then maybe he'll grow a brain. *using OP's logic again* But then again Smush Parker is not as short as Chris Paul, so he doesn't have chance to be a clone. Maybe if he changes his first name to Chris, both Tony's and CP's game can seep into him like osmosis. *Chris Parker*...c'mon, it'll work, just like the VMac experiment.
AHAH. LOL. Im tired, Im going to bed. Its 2 in the morning here in Aus. Maybe Morey and Rick should get some sleep so they can get their heads together and make the right moves. Peace.
Matty don't mind V3.0, he is just a DD hater, he follows me around like a little lost puppy trying to pick a fight. He is just a lil hater..... DD
All this team need is a PG, not name steve "old man walking" francis. I wont be surprise if Adelman plays Brooks. Adelman played J-Will in Will's first season too. Also, some European players who can really shoot. Can we have Boki back?
things defintely dont look good right now. the year we got sura, wesley, and barry, van gundy kept harping that there needed to be some trades. i think it'll only be a little while before adelman starts saying the same thing, but i dont know if we can pick up anyone who can have that kind of impact. one thing is certain though: james and francis need to pack their bags
James and Francis for Cassell. I'd love that deal. Granted Sam is old, but he still has game left in him. He's also injured fairly often, but we'd have our pg's of last year (Rafer and Luther) and even Aaron Brooks to cover for him when he's out. Come playoff time (if we even make it), Cassell could make all the difference between winning and losing a series. With Sam we'd have a 2 yr window before he becomes completely useless.
If we need leadership, tweaking the roster will not be satisfactory. In these locker rooms, your leader is either a strong-willed coach (a Phil Jackson or pre-2001 Pat Riley), or it is your best player who has an alpha dog personality (Jordan, Olajuwon). Right now we have Adelman, who is a hands-off nice guy that only marginally keeps guys in check (Steve). We have Yao, whom rightly or wrongly can command only so much as a naturally passive non-American. Finally, there's McGrady who is the guy people will naturally look towards as the team leader....only he's somewhat apathetic and does not lead much by example. Jordan and KG have punched out teammates in practice for "the right reasons." If a Rocket were to dog it at our practices...would anyone get in his face? Bringing in a Sura may help - it gives you another guy like Battier or Scola that plays with good effort every night. But they won't be a locker room leader. They're not a star, they're not a coach. For this team to turn things around, we either need a new coach or add an All-Star that will lead. I doubt we replace Rick - even if we canned him so early and impatiently, who is out there to replace him with? I've said this over and over, but I do believe that our best bet is to make a heavy play for Kidd. Battier, Alston, James, and Hayes to start the talks. If we have to? I'm ready to end the McGrady era. Ticking time-bomb back, lackadaisical commitment to win. Evan
at first the title of the thread had me to believe that it was talking about tmac's ankle.......but I've come to the point where I truely do believe it's time to "partly" blow up this team.
Great thread and spot on. I thought we were getting the needed grit and fire with Steve, MJ and Scola. Overall I think Scola's performed very well but it's too much to expect from a 'rookie'. MJ's energy does not seem to pull the team up since it appears to wilt and die with so many missed shots/poor decisions and also the lack of team play seems to keep it from catching-on w/ other players. And Steve just can't seem to be an impact player (understatement). I like him and I still hold out hope that conditioning has been the major problem, but we're well into the season now so that hope is dwindling (he's 5 of 23 in December, and 8 t/o w/ his 8 assists... ) .
btw, the importance of bob sura's mentality is overblown. Any PG that can give 10/5/5 consistently will be a big boost, even if that PG is a softie.
Here's a question yall should ask yourselves: Can T-Mac lead a team to a championship? Can Yao lead a team to a championship? Can they both lead a team to a championship? If you answered "no" on all three then there lies the problem. We have two "superstars" that are unable to carry a team. T-Mac fades with pressure, and Yao just doesn't have "it". Basically, we can only win if we have a great supporting cast. We can't build around T-Mac and Yao because they cant carry a team.
Well, Yao has started to get "it", if you've been watching how he's been playing lately. The question is whether he can keep it up though and whether teammates will respond to him.
i wonder how that sentence would be worded different if another coach happen to be coaching but tearing it down is not needed. tweaking will help a bunch but it is also mental
I'm a Delonte man, myself. But, to get a 1 one needs to delete a couple of 1s. That is one big challenge.
