Always enjoy discussing with you Rhad... "I was young and stupid" carries little weight with me usually, but when it comes to religion it can. Being a "new Christian" can be a challenge. If you are in certain churches surrounded by certain people you can get hyper excited about fundamentalism. She acknowledged that was her and that she has since matured in her faith. As someone who was a young Christian at one point and knows a lot of people who have gone through that, I can appreciate and accept that answer. When you first become a Christian it's easy to see the world in black and white and be arrogant and hypocritical. Ha Ha. No really, she seems to either be a lawyer or a PR person. Couldn't gather, and it wasn't specifically addressed. On another note, if her explanation about the back taxes thing is true, I'm very disappointed in the dems for attacking her on that. The IRS acknowledged it was a computer error and corrected it?
Counterpoint: It's astonishingly easy to claim maturity or an enhanced viewpoint. Or to claim that a past quote was a "flub". The intelligent citizen will recognize patterns and conclude that neither is plausibly the case. E.g., Bachmann. We have enough Bachmanns.
I accept your counterpoint. I can't give you a reason why I believe her other than to say that unlike when I watched Palin or when I watch Bachmann, I don't feel like she is being disingenuous. I didn't sense her searching for answers, trying to remember what was on a notecard during her prep meetings, trying to think what is the best answer, etc. She came across incredibly natural, in a way that I think is hard to fake.
Again, actually serving in public office has so little to do with, "what I believe" and so much to do with "who can I get to do what needs to be done". Ideology doesn't equal competence. I'm trying to convince my goofy East Texas friends of that with Bill White.
Yeah, she also claimed to have a college degree for many years (she didn't) and got laughed at - by fox news - for claiming that she almost beat Joe Biden (she didn't) so her truthiness is in doubt.
linked...for your pleasure. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Gannon http://www.rawstory.com/exclusives/byrne/secret_service_gannon_424.htm he wrote for an obscure right wing website and after being refused a congressional press pass was given daily press passes by the white house so that he could attend press conferences. apparently, getting these passes is difficult and requires weeks of advance notice, but for 2 years he was able to get them day of the conference. he was also using an assumed name the whole time. "real" reporters got suspicious of this guy who was asking bush all kinds of softball questions like this... so they looked into who this unknown "journalist" was and found out that he was a former d.c. gay prostitute. the white house was indeed manipulating news coverage. the GOA reported that bush spent about $2 billion on fake news stories, buying off reporters and other propaganda. it was illegal, but the administration was never held accountable for it. but i dont think pointing out facts qualifies as an idiotic rant. it is a fact that this guy was a gay prostitute and it is also a fact that he visited the white house dozens and dozens of times at all hours of the day and night. under the freedom of information act 2 congressmen got secret service records that verified gannons visits to the white house - the records showed that many times he checked in, but failed to check out, which the secret service probably doesnt like. now, was junior getting it on w/ this guy? we dont know for sure, but how many straight men have gay escorts over to their house as much as guckert visited the white house? how many conservative, christian, married men who promote an anti-gay agenda hang out w/ gay prostitutes? ok, there is that ted haggard guy too. and junior certainly had his share of lewinsky moments w/ gannon - he literally couldnt keep his hands off the guy.
Thanks for posting, I'll check the links out. By the way, this quote: should be attributed to bnb, not me.
oops - i knew that - in my effort to conserve precious internet bandwidth by responding to two posters w/ one post i accidentally attributed that to you. the point in bringing this up firstly, is that it is hilarious and second, to show that the 'biased liberal media' perhaps is not so biased or liberal. justtxyank brought up that bho got a free pass on his cocaine usage, which is largely true. but bush got a free pass on the whole gannon thing (as well as his own cocaine usage). contrast that w/ the way the 'biased liberal media' covered lewinsky.
Anyone see the video of her recently talking about how scientists have done evil things such as successfully put a human brain into a mouse? I saw it on either the Daily Show or Colbert last night... don't remember which. This woman is a gold mine of hilarity.
