Don't you people realize what happened?

Junior was listening to "Who's Next" on his Walkman right before the speech, and he got confused.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss (well, sort of):D

Thank you for proving my point.

Those quotes do no such thing, because the two parties are using very different definitions of the internet. The internet-guys are talking about the "internet" as the actual core backbone of the system. Gore more likely is talking about the internet as the average American thinks of it (the web, etc).

The web would likely not exist in the form and depth that it does had government not taken the initiative in pushing its development (funding, etc). That's where Gore "took the initiative". That's not to say no one else would have pushed something similar, or that he created the internet himself, but he was considered a leader in the government side of the larger-scale development process.

Yeah, I really hated how Regan lied about Iran-Contra. Reagan may have been a great politician, but his ethics sucked.

The economy has been in the tank Bush's first two years in office. If we go to war with Iraq, minimally that will add another year in the tank. No way, no how does Bush get re-elected if 3 out of his 4 years the economy sux.

Personally I would not be surprised if Bush waits to summer before his re-election vote to invade Iraq. That might be his best shot at re-election.

Man The internet was around in military and the govt. use prior to the congressional bill. Gore was instrumental in bringing the internet to the public at large.

It might have happened eventually anyway, but it happened sooner, in part, because of Al Gore.

I could carry it further because the internet boom of the 90's was a large part of what drove the economic boom of that era, so Gore deserves a share of the credit for that.

Yes it will always be funny when someone says that Gore believes he invented the internet, because it's not true. But as has been shown, Gore never claimed to have invented the internet.

Gore was a part of it's wide spread use today.

Oh, I get it. Two definitions of the internet. Kind of like it depends on what the definition of "is" is, right? :D

Seriously, I understand the point that you and other apologists for Al are trying to make. I still think he was exaggerating in an effort to make his contributions seem more significant than they really were, to put it kindly. Nothing other politicians aren't guilty of, but some people seem to think it only runs in one party.

Have we beat this horse to death yet? :)

My favorite Bush verbal error was when he claimed that in the election campaign he promised that he wouldn't use deficit spending except in times of war or national emergency.

People looked and looked for that quote from the campaign, and they found it. It turns out that the person who actually said it was AL GORE, and not President Bush.

    That was too funny.

Oh please. I was feeding Internet Usenet groups to my BBS as a kid back in 1987. Thanks a lot Gore, you really helped me get on the Internet. FIDONet helped me do those feeds, not Gore. I was also chatting with a friend in New York via the "Internet" back at approximately the same time. Several universities have had Internet access for a long time before the WWW became popular. Long before Gore was this "driving force" some of you claim him to be.

I'm sure AOL, CompuServe, Prodigy, Genie, et. al. had nothing to do with the Internet boom in the late 80's and early 90's, too, right? I'll give credit where credit is due, but Al Gore had about as much influence on the average person jumping on the Internet as I did. Most people got on the Internet because others got on the Internet. The boom was caused by 1) the NCSA Mosaic Browser, 2) HTML/Hypertext, 3) The coolness factor that spread by word of mouth and advertising, which all led to 4) corporations seeing a potential goldmine on the 'Net which started their influx around 1994-1995.

People that say Al Gore played any major role in the Internet boom are deluding themselves. The Internet would've happened without Gore or any other politician that wants to take claim for it, and the boom of the 90's would have also happened without their aid.

I wish Powell had run LAST time. ...

 Wait, something's missing here. Isn't it about time we get an ALL CAPS pro-Bush "argument" from Trader Jorge with a "thanks for playing!" or a "game! set! match!" type of foot-stomping capstone? I mean, everybody's been having fun with that "6 more years" comment.
