Don't forget: If we face GSW in 2nd Rd, Capela will have a $1,000,000 incentive to beat them

I disagree. It's about supply and demand.

Let's look at the league's centers real quick:

    Western Conference (by standings)

    1. Warriors - Boogie
    2. Nuggets - Jokic
    3. Rockets - Capela
    4. Blazers - Nurkic
    5. Jazz - Gobert
    6. Thunder - Adams
    7. Spurs - Aldridge
    8. Clippers - Zubacs/Harrell
    9. Kings - Bagley, Giles, Cauley-Stein
    10. Lakers - Chandler/McGee
    11. Pelicans - Anthony Davis / Jahlil Okafor
    12. Grizzlies - Jaren Jackson Jr.
    13. Mavericks - Porzingis
    14. Suns - Ayton

    Eastern Conference (by standings)

    1. Bucks - Brook Lopez but frequently Giannis - needs center that can shoot the 3 when Giannis is not playing C
    2. Toronto - Marc Gasol, Ibaka
    3. Sixers - Embiid
    4. Celtics - Horford
    5. Pacers - Myles Turner, Sabonis
    6. Nets - Jarrett Allen
    7. Magic - Vucevic, Bamba
    8. Pistons - Andre Drummond
    9. Hornets - Biyombo/Cody Zeller
    10. Heat - Whiteside/Adebayo
    11. Wizards - Dwight Howard
    12. Hawks - Dedmon/ John Collins
    13. Bulls - Wendell Carter Jr/ Robin Lopez
    14. Cavs - Tristan Thompson
    15. Knicks - DeAndre Jordan /Mitchell Robinson

    So two things to note:

    1. When you really look at it you'll find it's kind of surprising how many teams Capela isn't a clear upgrade for. For example, I think Capela is better for us than Nurkic would be but would he be better for the Blazers than Nurkic? I'm not so sure.
    2. The center position simply isn't valued the way it once was. So even for the teams in which Capela is a clear upgrade you have to ask yourself if they value what he brings enough to offer him the max?

When I look around at the league I think that even if we created a hypothetical scenario in which EVERY team had max cap space AND they could only sign a center the only teams that would potentially make Capela a max offer would be:

Warriors (health of Boogie/hurt the Rockets)
    Clippers
    Lakers
    Pelicans (Davis is leaving)
    Nets
    Hornets
    Wizards
    Hawks
    Cavs
    Knicks

So I had to create a ridiculous hypothetical scenario that will never happen in order to get the pool of potential max offer buyers up to 1/3rd of the league. These are the free agent centers for 2019:

DeMarcus Cousins, Nikola Vucevic, Kristaps Porzingis, Marc Gasol, Al Horford, DeAndre Jordan, Brook Lopez, Willie Cauley-Stein, Jonas Valanciunas, Enes Kanter and Dwight Howard and though not a free agent, Anthony Davis is in the mix. If Capela were added to this list I think most teams in the hunt would value him somewhere between the first and fourth most desirable option but that's still a deep well to draw from.

And every team can't have a go at it. All of those centers are available but currently only 6 teams will have max cap room. The Knicks, The Clippers, The Kings, The Nets, The Hawks and The Pacers.

Then what about all of the teams that will not prioritize centers? Here are some guys who are available as free agents that aren't centers.

Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, Kyrie Irving, Kemba Walker, Klay Thompson, Jimmy Butler, Tobias Harris, Kris Middleton, D'Angelo Russell, Eric Bledsoe, etc.

The Knicks have cleared room for two max guys. They apparently are targeting Durant and Irving.
    The Clippers want Kawhi.
The Kings might target Capela but that's only if a.) they are letting go of Cauley Stein, b.) they don't see Bagley as a center and c.) they value adding a center more than other positions or are unable to bring in someone they prefer at other positions.
The Nets are apparently looking at Durant and Kawhi. If they fail on those do they see the difference between Capela and Allen to be big enough that it would be worth pursuing him? Do they lose their cap space by throwing the max at D'Angelo Russell?
The Hawks could be interesting. They really like Collins but Capela is a clear upgrade and yet he's still young enough to grow with Trae Young and Huerter. Still, of all of those free agents do they throw max money at Clint?
The Pacers have Myles Turner and Sabonis. Wouldn't it make more sense to pursue guys from the non-center free agent pool? I bet they'd love to steal Middleton or Bledsoe and hurt the Bucks in the process. But Klay Thompson next to Oladipo would be amazing in the East too.

I spent entirely too long on this - but the bottom line is I can only see a couple of teams that would even consider throwing max money at Clint and even those teams would probably be looking at failing at a lot of other options before they considered it.

Who do you think would give him the max?
