I feverishless hate trading guys we drafted/discovered who are noticeably playing above their first potential. (Yes, I break out in hives with a 102 fever.) People who say Head has reached his ceiling are the people who artificial set a ceiling for him last year. As JayZ750 said, Head has clearly broken through that stupid glass ceiling people put on him. To those people, maybe it is time to stop trying to figure out his potential. People who feverishless need to make trades every year and look to trade Head because he has the only trade value to make the trade worth talking about....are just dreamcasters. ignore them, as always.
Head is more than a spot up shooter (eg., Novak). He can dribble and drive, and is an adequate ballhandler. There is no way he cannot vastly improve his mid-range jumper given his 3-point shooting ability. It's only a matter of time, which I think has a lot to do with JVG's instruction, for Head to shift his priority from mostly 3-point shootings to mixing it up with more mid-range shootings. Head is doing OK but not exceptional on defense. The most glaring deficiency in his game, however, is his finishing around the basket, whether it's fastbreak or driving to the hoop in half-court offense. He has improved in almost every category since his rookie season. Definitely a keeper. On finishing at the basket, even a good and experienced ballhandler Alston isn't doing any better than Head. Snyder is also not the type of player who does it well -- he relies mainly on his sheer athleticism and fearlessness (how much he retains these after his injury remains to be seen) rather than skill and flair. A healthy TMac is the only Rocket who has the ability to drive and score on a daily basis.
all head has to do is learn to finish at the basket. its hilarious that you battier lovers say head has reached his ceiling, but if someone brought up trading battier you would have fits. he has a much higher ceiling than shane and given the fact that he is still in his rookie contract, he's the best value on the rockets by far besides yao.
correct. And let's just talk about this trade value/investment thingie here. Trade value increases most based on playoff performances. His trade value will increase after he proves to the whole world his clutchness, come playoff time. Why anyone would consider trading NOW before he gets a chance to increase his trade value in the playoffs is just a dreamcasting fantasy-head! You see...fantasy leagues stop after the end of the regular season. They don't take into consideration the playoffs. umkay
Uh, are you being sarcastic? If so, I'm not sure where that came from. Although I do think you're seriously misguided if you think Bonzi is more likely to have a successful season than Luther Head.
Man, it's weird how Rocket fans get so defensive when a young Rocket player shows tremendous improvement and is having a good season. Relax dude. Forgive me for posting some actual factual information, as opposed to subjective, useless opinions.
this thread seems like a response to Luther's 26 9 4 performance last night. these opinions will probably change drastically in a week when he goes into a slump.
I would trade him for corey maggette right now just on size and willingness to go to the hole play defense and he would finally give us that guy with some sort of mean streak head to me is just to small for a 2 guard this why i really didn't want mike james he and head are the same person
Snyder, because of his athleticism, is our best finisher at the rim outside of Yao. The last time McGrady played and drove to the rim, he got blocked at least 3 times because he is not using his athleticism. If Head can continue to improve his penetration ability and improve his defense a little bit, I think he becomes our Mike Bibby on a rookie deal. I'd like to see him bulk up just a little bit more, not too much, but maybe 5-10 pounds of muscle only. That would make him one tough hombre.
Sam Cassell's 2nd Year: 33% Three-Point Shooting 42% Field Goal 9.5 Points 2.6 Rebounds 4.9 Assists 23 Minutes per game Robert Horry's 2nd Year 38% Three-Point Shooting 45% Field Goal Shooting 9.9 Points 5.4 Rebounds 2.9 Assists 29 Minutes per game Luther Head's 2nd Year (so far): 50% Three-Point Shooting 45% Field goal shooting 11 Points 3.7 Rebounds 2.0 Assists 26 Minutes per game Even with rebound and assist numbers added to DCkid's table, we can see statistically overall, Head isn't as "bad" as portrayed by some here, compared to Horry and Cassell. Head can definitely do more on dishing out dimes as a PG, tangibly.
man, you should reconsider that post. In my superstitious world of rooting for the Rockets, I actually believe the basketball gods do not look favorably on fans using that word or the "i" word, even in a sarcastic manner. Problem is, when the basketball gods teach you a lessson for predicting such things, us faithful suffer for your insolence.
I'm pretty sure Bill Simmons owes Luther an apology for essentially calling him a joke this summer in his NBA pre-draft columns.
I don't think individual defensive ability even matters on a Van Gundy team. Other than Battier, what "defensive stoppers" do we really have on our entire team? Yet, somehow we have the best defense in the league. Our defense is fine. Besides, Magette can't shoot a lick. Under no circumstances should this team make andy trades/changes that decrease our ability to shoot from the outside. Are we forgetting how the inside-out game won us two championships? And Yao is only going to be double or triple-teamed more as the season goes on.
To be quite honest, I sometimes cringe when I see Snyder driving to the hoop. It seems to me he's gonna get banged up really bad someday because he doesn't concern about himself colliding with defenders. I think many skillful slashers have some uncanny abilities to avoid unnecessarily heavy body contact. I could be wrong with my perception, but Snyder just doesn't possess that kind of ability, or he simply doesn't care. I know his wrist injury had nothing to do with driving to the basket.
Luther Head and Yao Ming should be considered established building blocks of the younger and upcoming Rockets Team.
that's Head's problem now he shoots to many three's plus I see to many times he look off Yao and in my book that is a big no no right now. Head really does a lot of dumb s**t at times. maggette is more of a slasher which would benefit Yao when the double comes over put it like this maggette knows his strengths and weaknesses plus when tmac comes back who that would be a hell of a bench for us. It's not just 3 pointers that we need when the double comes over, there is a such thing as a mid range shot and also you are allowed to slash to the hole and do that thing they call a dunk. How often have we seen one of those this year from a guard in the flow of the offense. Head to me is a ticking time bomb maybe if he just slowed down a bit hell he might have adult add. Seriously though it is only a matter of time before everyone begin to complain he holds the ball or shoots the ball to much. Can we say steve francis moochie norris .
