Rumor was after the Redskins loss that Ian Howfield tried to hang himself, but couldn't kick the stool out from under his feet.

Sage fumbles. . it is all his fault

the first one was clearly sage's fault. 2nd was well after the breakdown in protection and he was far outside the pocket

Honestly I don't think you should look too much at what happened in the last four minutes of the game and look what happened in the other 56.

I think the complete meltdown by him, mainly the two fumbles (and the risky goal line reach as well), were more due to him just trying too much; the guy's been a backup ever since he's been here but has done some pretty great things when given the chance. He's been open about wanting an opportunity to start and was given a chance today. So it would seem somewhat natural for a guy trying to perhaps create a little QB controversy to do a little too much. And over-aggressiveness is something that I think could easily be corrected as he becomes more comfortable in the starting role and gains more experience.

That said, I don't think his performance before he succumbed to the quicksand would have quite earned him the starting spot. I think Kubiak would have still given Schaub at least one more chance, considering he did well against Jacksonville. And while I'd say it's pretty certain we can see Schaub next week, I still think Rosenfels performance (minus the late collapse) should serve notice. Frankly, Schaub hasn't quite earned the right this year, so far, to feel deserving of that staring position. He needs to go out next week and lead the team like Sage did today...and close it out.

You guys crack me up. Take away the last 4 minutes. They were 0-3 before and got owned. They blew this game now but won minus 4 minutes. That means they're improving with each passing game. I think they'll at least have another 8-8 or 7-9 season. One bad game yea. But its not like they were legit playoff contenders or anything. At the very least they'll .500 or a little below again. Not progress, but not end of the world either. Just saying as a Rocket fan and Rocket fan only here.

While I was very pleased with what Sage did as well up till the final minutes... you can't simply discount it as "he was just trying too hard... he'll learn and never do it again."

What if he tries to hold himself back in the future and it impacts ALL his decision making... then he starts being weary/skiddish in the pocket, become hesitant to run, and that's when you get a truly ineffective QB.

What Sage did in the final minutes goes in line with what he was doing the entire game (and much of his career)... he forces the issue whenever he can, and if you do enough of that, unfortunately you start making mistakes. He had games last year where he'd inexplically throw the ball to the defender with NOBODY in sight (much like today's final INT).

IOW, he's a backup QB. There have been several backup QB's who look stellar in stretches, but all ultimately show their true colors. Hell, Frank Reich had the greatest comeback of all time. Jeff Hostetler won a Super Bowl (the same year, ironically)... however, neither could ever cut it.

If Sage is to play again, you gotta just let him be himself... and take the good with the bad. Because if you start trying to control every action a QB makes on the field (a lot of which are instinctual), he ends up thinking too much out there... and the end result is what we saw out of Carr the final years.

I'd rather take a stud lineman (yes, another one!) or a stud secondary man and pick up Juice Williams in the second or third!

Its what they should have done from the very beginning. There's no point in having skills players if you don't have the horses up front (on both sides).

Skills players need other players to execute to make them better. Lineman (and to some extent corners/safeties/linebackers) normally look good on their own accord... and don't need such help.

I still look back at all those extra picks we had when we started out, and all those picks we wasted in trading for unknowns like Babin, and Buchannon... ugh, makes me sick.

If we don't beat the Dolphins next week, I'm done supporting this team for the year. Honestly whats going on? We were good last season before the injuries but now its the 06 season all over again.

    Start tanking?

Well I won't disagree with that..I just hope that he realizes he probably shouldn't go aerial when running with the ball...or just to protect the ball when he's on the move for that matter.

I just think these knee-jerk reactions are silly...Schaub's doing poorly, bring in Sage...Sage does well, make him the permanent starter...Sage blows the game, he should stay on the bench. Frankly, both of these guys have had good stretches and both have had bad. Neither have have quite earned the starting spot yet (despite Schaub having been anointed that role already) and I think using Sage to put a little heat under Schaub's seat could do some good. If Sage hadn't had that meltdown, I still think I would have wanted Schaub to start at least one more game, to see how he responds.

    Exactly.

You know what time I'm going to cite as a primary example in this?

    You'll never guess it.....

    The Arizona Cardinals!

They have a very good offensive line that they have built over the last couple of years. They built them with high draft picks. They also did a great thing in taking value skill picks, and signing quality free agents on offense. Now, they have a Mike Martz-esque "Greatest Show on Turf" kind of offense.

If only they had put a little more effort in their defense. They have a decent defense, don't get me wrong, but it's by no means dominant.

Still, I think they're a darkhorse in the NFC.

LOL....yeah. Gee Mrs. Lincoln, other than that, how was the play?

    Too funny.

Making excuses for a guy who single-handedly LOST a 17 point lead with 5 minutes left. Nobody else made him refuse to slide. SAGE MADE THAT DECISION. He lost the ball and it was returned for a TD. The very next series, he fumbled AGAIN on our own 20.

    Please.

Sage rose then fell... then fumble(s).

That was the closest to Oilers vs. Bills I ever want to get again. :(
