Donovan is flashy but he doesnt do enough of the little things that makes a superstar. He is definitely a number 2 at best
story of his career. Always failing in the playoffs. Some guys just don’t have it to win. It would be a mistake to try to acquire this guy
yeah he’s not a championship player to me. At least not as a 1 or 2 but maybe throw him on a stacked team like Wiggins with Warriors in 24. Never liked him. Just think about all those Jazz years when he had so many chances to win a title but failed
Donovan is 100% a playoff performer. 28ppg, 5 boards, 4.5 assists on 44/35/82, 56%TS across 73 games in 36.5 mpg I cannot stress how elite those numbers are, they hold up very well with all of the all time greats, Jordan, Kobe, LeBron, Wade etc It’s a team sport, if Mitchell shows up and is consistently dominant in the playoffs that’s all that you can really ask of him
D Mitch is a good example of a good seed gone bad when he was a rookie for the Jazz he was known for his defense and hustle thats why his nickname is Spida despite being a 6'2 guard. Now he is just bad on D, ball hog and cant move off the ball. He is still ok as an offensive engine though, but I think you need to build around him like Larry Brown built around Iverson. Which I guess means we would be a contender if we can get him and exchange Sengun for a defensive center lol.
The big games dude. He fails in many of these: 2018 vs HOU: FG%: 36% 3pt% 25% (lost 4-1) 2019 vs HOU: FG% 32% 3pt% 33% (lost 4-1) 2020 vs DEN: FG% 40% 3pt% 25% TO:9 (game 7) (lost 4-3) 2021 vs LAC: game 4-6: FG% 36% 2pt% 30% (games 5-7) 3pt% 28% (game5) (lost 4-2) 2022 vs DAL: FG% 39 3pt% 20 (lost 4-2) 2023 vs NYK 3pt% 28% 12 TO games 3&4 (lost 4-1) 2025 vs IND FG% 42 3pt% 24 FT% 74 (lost 4-1)
Devin Booker, Donovan Mitchell, they just wanna sell tickets, get 2 home playoff games. “Just ok is ok.”
While it technically wasn't must win, going back to Detroit was not what you wanted from getting home court. And if you cannot show up at home to win the series, I don't have faith in you doing it there. Mitchell has never looked like "THAT GUY" and this series he is showing it. When Harden left the floor and it was Mitchell's show, they just seemed to flounder. It is a bad look when James Harden is outplaying you and is 10 years older (too lazy to look up their ages).
right i was thinking about the spurs series. But another bad outing in an important game. There’s some mental barrier here
it seems to me that at any given time in the NBA there are 3 to 5 players who are going to be able to consistently be a constant throughout the regular season and especially the playoffs. Flagg, Although young and on a non-playoff team, I would expect would do rather well in the playoffs. It might take him a year or two of trial and error, but I think he will get there. I really think that people are overestimating the amount of true franchise players that can be that impactful in the league today. Or maybe ever. Harden, was certainly one, but I believe in the end he was limited by his system, being very limited and by a degree himself and the players around him. we were probably one or two investments away during the harden era as far as winning a title. we went cheap and obviously it went the wrong way. we tanked for a few years and we just didn’t look into a franchise prospect, but there were plenty of drafts where one didn’t necessarily come out of it. I think it’s just as important to be able to trade for one or build a system that empowers a couple players and enables a deep team to do well.

If you take a step back and analyze things some of the conflicts and fights seem to be fabricated for ratings. They want a Malice at the Palace II.
