Spanoulis was a stiff under JVG. He didn't get playing time because he simply sucked ass! Controlling his turnovers is a bigger IF that most posters on this board realize. V-Span is going to have to make a major step up in his game or he will be drummed out of the league by seasons end.

Clutch nailed it with his Mike James Rocket's preview

"So much will depend upon what other trade options are available, but if it proves to be at a cost of just Juwan Howard, James could be a great buy-low candidate. If his percentages even toy with what we saw in Canada, you've stolen him. This is a solid, and very realistic, option for the Rockets. "

    Good call Clutch!

I will miss Howard's professionalism, but we need to upgrade the 4. What's next?

Denver aren't escaping from LT this season. If Kmart can't be moved the best they could hope for is moving guys like Evans and Kleiza.

Since James will be making around 6.5M next season, 7M & 7.6M the following, if the trade kicker is applied. That is not much change from JHo staying. Rockets would still have to consider cheap talent like Kleiza to fill out the roster and to stay under the LT.

Well, it sucks to see Howard go, cause he wasn't trouble down here other than sucking a few times.

If we do keep Rafer, I'd like for Rafer to start. I sure as hell wouldn't play him 40 minutes. I'd keep him around 25 to 20 minutes or less, and have James come off the bench.

Lucky bastards, good on ya. I know James doesn't have the finest contract on earth compared to Juwan's, and his age is an issue, but GEEZ what a rip-off ...

EDIT: just realized (haven't read the thread) that Mike will be 35 at the end of June of the last season of his deal. What a steal. Holy crap, McHale sucks ...

This is a good start. They are thin in the frontcourt but get badly needed perimeter shooting.

I guess this means we gave up hope on Artest?

    This is great news !

The Rockets need perimeter players that can attack the basket and create their own shot to take advantage of the new NBA.

Juwan was only getting worse anyway, and the Rockets knew they needed an upgrade at PF regardless of whether Juwan stayed or left.

Now they have a creative combo guard that can play the SG or PG position and is a good outside shooter which fills a need on a team with Yao Ming.

Sure it leaves us thin at PF, but we were thin at 2 positions before this trade, PG and PF, and now we are think at only one.

    IMO, Good trade !

Will Mike James be traded again soon?

Will Mike James be traded again soon?

I have a feeling that Mike James will be traded again in the summer. What do you think?

Solid trade. I would have preferred Stevie, but the chances of his buyout are slim. Mike at the very least gives us another player that can create his own shot, which we desperately need, and we will hopefully never see another 40+ minute night out of Rafer. I do expect Rafer to remain the starter, though.

Losing Juwan's contract, an aging player who we would likely have very few minutes for, is another solid plus. I wish him the best in Minnesota, he did what he could here.

Can't wait to see our next move... seems like there could be a lot more changes to come this off-season

I dont think the CBA lets you do that.

    We're keeping him.

No, I think this fuels the fire for Artest...we need a forward more than ever and Artest can give us a 3/4 combo coach A wants. I think if he and Hayes can hold the fort at the 4 and he might get some burn at the 3 as well. If we make the Artest trade we look like this

    Yao
    Artest
    Battier
    Tmac
    Alston/James
    -V

I say we bring Dennis Rodman and Mad Max out of retirement and put them all on a T-shirt that says "Texas Breeds Bad Boys."

PS- I like Matt Barnes too, but he is destined to cash in and never be heard from again this offseason.

Wait, how is Rocket management idiotic? They are pure geniuses to me.

    1) They trade garbage for Mike James

    2) Trade him for another solid PG

    3) Turned down giving him a trade kicker

    4) Watch as he has his worst season in 5 years and lowers trade value

    5) Trades a PF on his last legs and making WAAAAYY too much to get James back.

NOW, they have Mike James, minus the trade kicker and one less year on his contract and one who will be motivated again to silence his critics after last season, still have Rafer (making a decent 1-2 combo at the position), saved a little money on the cap this year and got rid of old-man Juwon.

Plus, both Rafer's and James' contracts are both reasonable to move if they have to go in another direction later on.

    GENIUSES!!!

    Nice.

Trade Juwan's bad contract for Mike James so & so contract + trade kicker (= bad contract). A lateral move at most. Dig a hole in the front court to patch a hole in the backcourt.

Wait, I like Juwon and all (solid pro and great guy) but wasn't there already a hole in the front court?

They basically just traded a guy who wore down last season and would probably get little to no playing time for a guy that competes for the starting job elsewhere.
