Never mind - Wright's name does appear in the article, mentioned as one of the glut of PG's that caused MJ to not be able to get a lot of floor time. I guess the article title simply snags linked items, nothing more.

Hey, I'm with you on this one. He makes them better guard-wise compared to last year but there is a real question on whether that better will translate to better results next season.

Kevin McHale really blows. He gave Mike James a 4-year contract with a trade kicker last summer, and essentially drafted a younger Mike James-Randy Foye (both undersized 2 guards) rather than ROY. A year later, he pays MJ's trade kicker and swallows Juwan's contract for us. I don't know whether I should give credit to Daryl Morey and Dennis Lindsey's genius or Kevin McHale's stupidity. Still remember earlier this year when Forbes.com listed Kevin McHale the greatest GM in all pro sports?

Uhh, Les gets to pay the trade kicker, not McHale.

JVG chimed in .... called James a "significant addition" for the Rockets.

How does the trade kicker affect the cap?

Judging from what his career has looked like so far, I don't see why either team would consider him an asset they couldn't pick up for the minimum before camp. So, I see it as a salary dump. But, I guess it could be either way, or maybe both.

As for comparisons to Snyder, it doesn't seem to me that Reed has a tenth of the chance Snyder has of being a contributor. I'm hoping for Snyder to be able to take a more active role; I don't see Reed often coming off the inactive list.

I'm sure Morey got out his computer and figured out a way to make Juwan look better than he was and I'm sure Lindsey chimed in with some redneck logic.

How come? Was that one of the terms in the trade? Any source confirming that?

...Either way, getting Reed is a win-win. Low-risk guy with some potential. Light salary, so the Rockets can always jettison him or use him as trade bait.

But...I found this a bit intresting.

    Latest notes
    Apr. 17, 2007 - 12:13 a.m. ET
Justin Reed had 19 points on 8-for-14 shooting in Monday's loss to Denver.
With Kevin Garnett sidelined, Reed is averaging 10.2 PPG the past four contests, outscoring his production in the previous 29 games.

    Apr. 15, 2007 - 6:25 p.m. ET
Justin Reed started at center in front of Mark Blount on Sunday and had nine points and four boards in another loss for the Timberwolves.
Mark Blount came off the bench for six points, 11 boards and a block. The Wolves have two games left until they're put out of their misery.

    Apr. 15, 2007 - 3:42 p.m. ET
Justin Reed is starting at center for the Timberwolves on Sunday.
Mark Blount is either out or will come off the bench today, as the Wolves continue to experiment with their lineup and rotation with nothing left to play for.

Doesn't really prove much, since its pretty much garbage time, but hey, its something.

all I know is that Morey and Alderman were very non-commital when talking about Rafer in that press conference. They said a few things to indicate he'd still be around...but...they were pretty non-commital to him. Anyone else notice MJ's body language when they were asked about Rafer's status? I think Mike wants that starting PG position pretty badly.

Is it confirmed that we're paying the trade kicker? I thought the initial reports said Minnesota would be paying it.

Wow. That press conference was weird. It was so strange seeing a Rockets press conference with both a new GM and a new coach.

Now that he's finally gone, the great irony of Juwan Howard's stint with the Houston Rockets was that only twice did he make any type of on-court contribution and it was in those two instances where we refused to trade him for what would have been greatly beneficial additions.

Right before the deadline in '05, we refused to trade him for Kurt Thomas due to chemistry reasons. Juwan goes down and Ryan Bowen starts at power forward against the Mavs.

Right before the deadline this year, we refuse to trade him for Mike James due to chemistry reasons. Juwan contributes next to nothing against Utah, and Rafer Alston is our 3rd option.

Did you guys see that huge smile that mj had at the end of the press conference when he saw that jersey headed his way.

He did need that humbling, as he said , I hope thats what it takes to get him to scored 15-16 points for us.
