I grew up thinking that the Steak N Ale @ 1960 & 45 was the best steak ever. We used to go there for every family event. Once I learned I had tastebuds, I quit going. Bennigans was good for what it was. Basic stuff, fairly quick, and it didn't taste like total crap (like Applebees...I hate that place).
man applebees isn't good, tgi friday's either, imo. I like cheddar's however and I used to prefer bennigan's over chilli's but chilli's continuosly updates the menu, and not just to raise prices. bennigan's had a better bar with more beers.
You probably thought that because you tasted the terrible steaks at all these other chains. It ain't the best but its quiet, comfortable, and damn good for the price. Do they know if there will be ANY staying open? I need to be able pile my salad full of unhealthy crap somewhere.
Man Applebee's is awful. It always seems so white trash to me. I'll miss the Turkey O' Tool and the Monte Cristo. I had many good times back in the day at Bennigans on 45 and the south belt.
The economic downturn has caused hardship on several of the casual dining chains. These guys are liquidating, but there is at least one other that I know of in chapter 11.
The Bennigan's in Lake Charles was right on the river. When I worked in Lake Charles, I loved the long Friday lunches at Bennigan's watching boats go by.
I remember that! I went there once when driving through Lake Charles as part of a road trip. The friend I had with me had grown up in a small town and never been to a Bennigan's, and she loved that place... and that one was particularly pretty right there on the water.
OK, now for your great entertainment, I will post details of the salads and low-fat meals I've been making for my normal daily consumption, and of my workouts. Just as true but not quite as interesting or pertinent to these threads. However, if anyone starts any threads on "cheap healthy meals" or "ellptical trainer" or "racquetball", I'll post.
Word...That was like crack...They just recently (well, 4 months ago) redid a Bennigan's to a Bennigan's sport...it's alright...I haven't been to Steak and Ale since High School, but my boss goes and says its great and reasonable... I've noticed up here that a lot of restaurants are closing...at least high end ones...there are just so many $$ to go around...at least up here in Dallas, going out to eat is a religion...
Man, I have to admit it, Bennigan's is probably my favorite chain restaurant of all time. I noticed a few weeks ago that the Bennigan's in my hometown, a franchise location, had gone out of business. They use to have really strong bar business and would stay open til 2 in the morning every night, but the last time I'd gone in, it was completely dead. Other places had opened in the area and taken away all of their business. Tomorrow I'm going down to visit a friend from college in Hot Springs, AR. I was there last week and the Bennigan's was still open, and the building is fairly new (opened within the past 5 years). If it's still open, I'm going to ask him if we can go out for lunch there and I'm gonna throw down one last Monte Cristo. On a side note, I have worked in a restaurant for the past three years. I haven't really noticed much of a drop off in business at all. I guess I must live in an area of the country that has not been hit as hard by the economic downturn.
Eh never went to either very often and when I did got to Bennigans I was kind of bothered by the food, so no big loss
