on one of the UH papers it was asking for the egg donations of 3.0 + gpa female students... willing to pay 2000+ per egg....
I donated twice a week for my last year at UT. It doesn't hurt, and it's a really easy way to make cash.
so that's how Max has 31,000+ posts on this bbs. and i thought it was about a tv the first few times i read the thread title until it clicked what it really meant.
Yeah, but the process is much different. They apparently have to be shot up with hormones and whatnot, and of course the egg(s) can only be collected at certain specific times. Plus I think there are a lot more cases of women not being able to have babies than men not having good enough sperm to make one. The demand for eggs is much much higher, so they get paid accordingly.
I've donated plasma about ten times. There was a program with my old college where you would get a five dollar voucher for food in the cafeteria with each donation. The process takes about 20 minutes. It doesn't really hurt, although the needle is larger than a typical blood test needle. They suck the blood into a machine where the plasma is separated, and then they pump the blood back into your arm. It usually takes three cycles of this to fill up the bag. You just lie there squeezing a foam ball or something. You can donate again within six days, but I wouldn't recommend going that often unless you want your inner arm covered with needle marks all the time. I personally never had any problems but one time the nurse stuck the needle too far into my girlfriend's arm, so when it came time to pump the blood back in, it didn't go into the vein, but was instead released under the skin. The result was a huge, nasty-ass black bruise all over the inside of her arm that stayed there for almost two weeks. She said that it hurt more than usual while it was happening, but she toughed it out and didn't say anything. So, if it starts to hurt when the blood is going back in, call one of the technicians over to check you out.
The first time I did it was about 3 years ago, donated. They forgot to put the saline (sp?) with the blood back in me and I got really really cold. It was the middle of July about 6 in the evening and when I got in my truck I turned the heater on. And when I got home I stayed under the covers until morning. Otherwise, I have had good donations. Madmax is right, that stuff is cold coming back in to your veins.
