Ah, gotcha - yes, I guess if he waits until after the Olympics to get his offer you are saying teams won't have enough left? I think this year is different, every team has money - and as such there will be money to be had all the way into the season. So, waiting won't be an issue..... The other point about going early is more of a Rockets point and not about DMo in particular. But remember he is a RFA, so we can match any offer he receives.... DD
This post simply doesn't make sense. You said a $10M/yr contract would be easy to flip if it didn't work out. But Brewer with his $8/yr contract is not easily flipped. Somehow, a bigger contract will be easier to flip than a smaller one? Is it because you're in love with DMo's abilities rather than being rational about his market value? Yeah, we flipped him, but he's still here. SVG wanted him for a long time, but once they got him and looked at his back they said no thanks. It's not going to get easier from here.
We need to keep DMo at all costs 7 footers with elite post skills and boxing out and positional defense and 3 point range do not grow on trees
10m is easy to flip, especially with the new cap. The point about Brewer was more of a WTF, we are paying Brewer 8m. DD
That's true. But I need him to improve that ft % and rebounding a lot. You don't see any of the great and very good teams without good rebounding bigs.
He can improve for sure - needs to also improve his 3pt shot again. Either way, I expect a big bounce back year from him, either in Houston or somewhere else. DD
He had the highest points per possession on post plays in 14-15 as I recall. He does have elite post skills.
He may have elite post skills, but that doesn't mean he is an elite offensive player. His inability to draw fouls and and his high turnover rate hamper that. His flashy post game hypnotizes people into believing he is better than he actually is. The guy is mediocre and has probably seen his last days in a Rockets uniform.
Mediocre is a bit harsh, I think he is above average and can be a starter on a playoff team if healthy. But you're right - post possessions are inherently inefficient and can be disruptive to the flow of offense if that's your bread and butter. Inside out ball is dead, and D Mo can't be a focal point of an offense. His defense is better than people give him credit for, and the three point range is nice. But the lack of rebounding and his high turnover rate (which negates his passing and court vision, which are very good) really hamper his overall value. I think that at 6-7 million/year he can work well, and I think D'Antoni could do a lot of damage with him in the way he did with Diaw when Stoudemire was out; the two have a lot of shared skills and weaknesses (good vision/passing, good post-play, 3 point range, average to above average defense, poor rebounding, etc...)
14.2 points 7.7 rebounds per 36 coming off of injury wasn't bad.....oh wait, that was Serge Ibaka's numbers fully healthy this year. 15.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per 36 weren't that bad coming off injury, in fact they were almost identical to his numbers before injury which is crazy given how he got jerked around by JBB for playing time. He was one of the best players on the roster when he got playing time and in fact the only playoff game the Rockets won just so happened to be the only one where they played DMo starter's minutes. It's crazy that he's still criminally underrated by so many here but I guess some people never learn.
You worship DMo (I have nothing against him, mind you, but I wouldn't mind that Top 20 draft pick from Detroit) and yet you despise Morey and (if memory serves, everyone blends together on this forum) Harden as well. Harden and Morey we can afford to lose, but not DMo? (sigh)
It's really a $16 million flip, so it might be more cost-effective to flip Ariza for a draft pick. As we saw with the Lin trade, the cost for moving that much dead weight is at least a first round pick. We might be best served hanging on to Brewer and hoping for a big bounce back year. Or maybe even using the stretch provision on him if we want to hang on to Ariza.
If the Rockets miracle their way into Durant, you flip Ariza for a pick then use that pick to get rid of Brewer. If you can't pick up Durant or another upgrade at SF, you just stick with Ariza and see if you can get the Grizzlies to take Brewer off our hands now that Brewer's best friend in the world, JBB, works for them now.
