Yes, and if T Jones still played with that aggression he used to play with he'd be much further along as a player. He lost that aggression and didn't add anything but a 3pt shot to his game, along with weaker rebounding and stagnant defensive development. He's obviously getting less athletic year by year as is the case with almost all players. However, Harrell is more of a high motor guy, more aggressive than Jones ever was. Harrell reminds me more of Jordan Hill than Terrence Jones. Frankly, I would love to have Hill on our bench right now he would be great for this team. Hill was very mistake-prone early in his career, but I don't recall seeing the marked improvement from him nor do I think we had a D-League affiliate to develop him while he was sitting. D-Mo is the best player out of all those guys. I heard Bill mention during the Jazz game that one of the issues with D-Mo's recovery is he works out TOO HARD on off days. How can you not love his attitude? Hope we re-sign him to maximum years, and I'm sure he wouldn't mind staying here. What I suspect though is he will only sign a reasonable $$$ deal if the coaches believe in giving him more shots, including him in the offense a little more. I don't see him as selfish, but I feel like that will come and we all know that's a VERY reasonable request. I'm tired of Brewer, Bev and Ariza putting up more shots than they should be putting.
They have some similarities, sure. They are both athletic yet a bit undersized so in some ways they are similar type players. That said if Harrell was a 4th year guy instead of a rookie I think a lot of us would be a lot more down on him than we are. With Harrell, just like with Jones once upon a time, we look at him and are thinking of the player he might grow into one day.....Jones never developed as a player and honestly the biggest differences between how he is now and how he was entering the league is that he plays with less energy now and he's hitting his 3's more often. With Jones' contract running out, he's out of time to show development but Harrell is just beginning his time.
fwiw: the Rockets head athletic trainer is really Jason Biles, in the terms you mean. Keith Jones is a VP of BBall Operations now, but still shares the title of Head Athletic Trainer with Biles. But Biles is doing everything that you are concerned with as being in charge of physical training and rehabilitation. We have a rather large team now. http://nbata.com/about-us/member-directory/western-conference/houston-rockets/ btw: Biles' resume in the link is out of date now, as he has received his PhD since. See this http://blog.chron.com/ultimaterocke...ner-adds-impressive-accomplishment-to-resume/ Jason Biles already had one of the league’s most impressive titles as the Rockets’ Director of Performance Rehabilitation and head athletic trainer. Last week, he earned a title considerably shorter but more impressive, completing work on his doctorate in physical therapy to add Ph.D after his name. “Just trying to be the best that I can,” Biles said. “The highest point for a therapist nowadays is to get a doctorate so I wanted to be able to be my best and help these guys with the latest and greatest knowledge out there, the newest techniques. “There’s a lot of evidence-based education so the latest and greatest science supports different techniques, systems and philosophies to help these guys get better. It’s about all sports, but applies well to basketball, obviously.” Biles said that Rockets general manager Daryl Morey emphasized continuing education with the team’s medical staff, with the Rockets meeting with others in the field each off-season. “We usually pick at least two things I take the entire staff to so we continue to get better,” Biles said. “Maybe it’s a manual therapy technique, maybe it’s a new type of exercise system, something we can all benefit from because you want every competitive advantage you can get. Daryl really supports being progressive and taking initiative to better yourself and ultimately the team. He grants you pretty much carte blanche to get it done.”
And Dmo played two more years in Europe's pro league. He should be more developed than any other player in their fourth year and surprisingly he has not been. Resume: more than 3 years in the NBA and 1 or 2 years in Europe's best leagues, still only 4-5 months in the absence of Howard that he has really shown what he can do. Just not good enough if you want to play that game.
SMH, why do you keep doing this? Comparing the two is really unfair for Jones so it would be better if you'd just stop doing that. In no way does Jones measure up, so it's going to seem like he's being bashed just describing the two players.
I am not continue doing anything. You are the one playing Only fan to a Euro. I am just saying both are flawed while you are keep bashing Jones while holding out for Dmo. That is just wrong. my 2 cents Being biased has never done anything good for the Rockets
Hate to break it to you kiddo, but I was a Rockets fan literally before DMo was born. Also, I'm not "bashing Jones", it just seems that way when a comparison of the two is done. If I compared James Harden to Micheal Jordan, it would seem like I was bashing Harden for the same reason. I was pretty high on Jones when he first came out too and it's sad that he never developed into a good player, but it's just about time to move on.
Lol at the kiddo comments directed fans that are over 30 or 40 All I am saying even if TJ never gets any better from now on (questionable still 23 yrs old) we all knew the story of Stromile Swift who had a decent career in Memphis up until he joined the Rockets. TJ can get smarter with time, but let us assume he is staying a low IQ guy. He just needs to work on his game, wherever he goes. Obviously the Rockets got other issues than waiting on him.
Neither tjones or dmo are anything special. Dmo is the more intriguing player but he rally hasn't proven a whole lot like a few on here claim. With some I think they believe dmo is a stud and has Allstar talent and some team is going to offer him 15+ mil a year. To me that is insane For one he's only played good not great food 40 games in his 3+ years. 2 he's coming off back surgey and has had setbacks And 3 which is the main thing, he's just flat out not as good as some on here say. Yes he's better than jones but imo if he's yiur starting PF your in some trouble unless he's playing with Andre Drummond who gets 15-20 rebounds a game. Dmo is a great rotaions level bigman who could get 20-25 min a night off the bench on a contender if healthy. I really bealive that. He would be great for the Spurs for example or Golden state. I would love to keep him at 8-10 mil a year but we need an upgrade at PF in a bad way.
It's really sad and a matter of great concern to see D-Mo with a recurring back injury soon after coming back. I am afraid his promising career may be in jeopardy. I hope he will recover and be a successful player for our Houston Rockets.
Back problems scare the hell out of me. We've seen this movie before and it rarely ends well. Once somebody had back issues, they seem to permanently have them in one form or another.
I think the tempered expectations for D-Mo are whack. In this NBA, post play is less of a factor. However there are some players who are playing a more modern post game - less backing down, more quickness, get into the move instantly. In addition, they are super fast at finding where the double team is coming from and remaining aware of movement from teammates. I'm nowhere NEAR as down on Jones as most people here but he simply does not have any weapon of that nature. D-Mo can do what he does even against Tim Duncan in a Finals game. Well, at least he could before the injury but I'm hopeful about recovery. D-Mo is one of the guys who has mastered this new art. He was abusing poor, average and excellent defenders of all sizes for a stretch of 40+ games. That's going to come back. Not to mention he's a very serviceable defender, great at setting picks & rolling, great at passing out of the high post, can hit 3's. IMO he clearly separated himself from Jones. Jones is in a bit of a rut right now. He needs to find his confidence and aggression again, and go back to the drawing board about his slow rotations on defense.
That's what he does when people don't agree with his constant bashing of Jones. He start calling them kiddo and stuff like that.
Jones is slight better, go look at his stat line compared to Dmo. Dmo barely averaged 12 points and 4 rebounds a game. People just feel in love with his razzle dazzle post moves.
Uhh, no, we just stopped looking at just the "stat line" after the year 2000. Jones is a good player, can get minutes on teams. Can't play defense. Doesn't attack aggressively. Constantly loses focus on defense. Great at hitting 3's this season. Runs the floor well, though doesn't know what to do when he gets to his destination. Does nothing else particularly well/poorly. D-Mo is a starter for a contender. That's a big difference. It's not the razzle and the dazzle. It's the post moves, against high calibre starters, against great teams, timed wisely, executed efficiently, with an eye open for great passes to open teammates. It's boxing out people who he knows can out jump him. It's rotating quickly on help defense. I wonder now if you were being sarcastic.
bwhahahaha all of sudden Dmo is a starter for a contending team. Man I love how y'all dress Dmo up like he's the next coming of Hakeem or Mchale. I never in my life heard stuff like," it's boxing out people who he knows can out jump him for a rebound. Damn he suppose to box out after a miss shot. And for a 7 footer, he suppose to get more rebounds than he does. Man I can't wait until both him and Jones are traded so fans on here can stop the madness.
