Capela is also horrible at calling coverages on screens and that leads to a whole lot of downstream problems on D. Before he left, McHale was harping on how bad the front court defense gets when Dwight comes out of the game because the young guys can't call the correct coverages at game speed. This is the small stuff that people who didn't play the game will never really understand. It makes everyone look bad except for Cap a lot of the time. Especially the coaches, who are just trying to put in a system that the morons on the court can run. If you call the wrong coverage when the defense is set for something else it looks horrendous and leads to easy buckets. It's the equivalent of your high school coach saying force your guy middle and you keep giving up baseline drives where there is no help D. It has been said many times of Dwight (especially when he was in DPOY mode) that he is great at calling coverages. I really don't see the issue with Dwight on defense other than he over-helps at times. Combine a young center calling the incorrect coverages with a mess of lazy and poor defenders, and you have the Rockets on defense.
There is no doubt he does not solve the laziness and lack of effort by our guards.. Hopefully JB will start sitting them and playing the backups more...Would not mind seeing Lawson and MT in more if Bev and Harden continue to loaf on D. DD
Couldn't agree more, you're spot on. Communication is very essential to a great defense. And right now they're not communicating like they were last season. Dwight is trying his best but we have too many players either out of position or reaching from behind instead of moving their feet (aka James Harden).
Even worse is he gets lost easily. Every game last season all the way up to early this season he attentive of what position he had to be in to defend and rebound. I think, in many cases, he's also thrown in the towel the way Harden and Howard do but he doesn't have the status to.
It is frustrating to watch because I know the coaching staff doesn't want to switch everything on screens, but with the hand they've been dealt by Morey, they don't have much other choice at this point. I've never once played on a team (including college) where a guy who is a poor defensive communicator all of a sudden became good at it. It's almost like an innate character trait. And I've never once heard of something like that being put in to analytics.
I wouldn't call Jones or Brewer scrubs because both have helped us win quite a few games. Now as far last night, Dmo should have gotten more playing time because Jones was clearly off on both ends of the court. Now as far as the Rockets intentions, I have no clue. Maybe they're keeping Dmo on the bench so they could trade him, or maybe they're showcasing Jones in quest to booster up his trade value. Who on here actually know.
I would call them scrubs because they aren't quality NBA players. Sure sometimes they have decent games, but those are more the exceptions than the rule. It's almost shocking if either Jones or Brewer have games where they are a net positive on the court.
They need to go back to last years starting lineup. Capela is good but he’s offensively deficient. Starters PG:Beverly SG:Harden SF:Ariza PF:Motiejunas C:Howard Bench PG:Lawson SG:Thornton/Terry SF:Brewer/McDaniels PF:T.Jones/Harrell C:Capela
If they scrubs, can you shut the down? And what makes you such a great NBA talent analyst? I would love to see you put up 30-40 points in a NBA game Bobby. If he wasn't of quality, he most definitely wouldn't be starting or logging big time minutes in the NBA period. Brewer is having one horrible season so far but he's no scrub.
It's always funny when someone goes this route, when I say they are scrubs, I mean they are scrubs for NBA players. They'd tear it up at the local YMCA....but that doesn't really matter does it? Tim Tebow is a scrub QB, but he's a hell of a lot better than probably anyone on CF at playing QB.....does that mean he's awesome? When it comes to Jones and Brewer, sure they are logging big minutes, but that is almost certainly ahead of a trade. Neither really play defense worth a damn and are one trick pony transition players.
I guess I should start tweeting a picture of my laptop every time I do work at home. DMo's a marketing genius!!!
You're missing the point. You don't need to advertise how much you practice and work out. It'll show up on the court.
Dude they were logging big minutes last season and the season before. Brewer been logging big time minutes since he was drafted. So your comment doesn't make any sense. Brewer is getting minutes because he actually plays better defense than Thornton. Jones played solid defense his 1st year as a starter. And please let's not bring up him against Superstar caliber players. Nobody really can stop the likes of Blake Griffin and LMA. Man you have a **** load of one trick ponies on every team. You bring in a quality head coach who is defensive minded. You can best believe both of them would play better defense consistently. The reason why I went there, is because you are on here acting as if you're some type of NBA talent expert. If you were, why aren't you working for a team by now. And if you were, you wouldn't be on here either.
No need to criticize a guy for working hard either. Don't you wish the entire team had his work ethos? DD
