I usually use 5 or 6 and 50 games, either way Davis is still pretty good. He's no Rudy Gobert, but still pretty good. I think Davis' numbers will get better next season as he gets a bit more disciplined, but even now he has really good defensive numbers at the rim. Even more impressive is if you look at his other opponent FG% numbers and specifically the differential numbers, he's a beast all over the court.
Ok, last season D-mo was nobody in NBA and some had doubts he'll make any role in the NBA. Today some think he might be a star or close to that in NBA. I'm looking forward to see what he'll be next year at this time.
I think he has developed into a legit starter provided he plays next to a bruiser, but I don't believe he will ever be a star, not even close.
I'm a big DMo fan and have been glad to see him get some playing time and develop some skills but he only got two more rebounds than I did last night and I'm in Central Texas. This happens too often. He gets pushed around a lot and I'd like to see him play with more aggression.
Lol at using a single stat as the end-all and be-all measure of the idea of elite rim protection. What percentage of shots do these guys challenge? Need to look that up. And yes, blocking shots matters. Not all shot blockers are elite rim protectors, but pretty much all rim protectors block shots.
But he's an ELITE UNTOUCHABLE rim protector and he strikes total fear in all who come close to the rim LOL.
D-mo is not a high level rim protector. Most big men aren't, it is an extremely valuable skill. What D-mo is, is a very good position defender. When he can play next to an actual rim protector like Dwight, he becomes a very good defensive player. He rotates well, shows on screens, and does a good job defending the post. Unfortunately he's being asked to play center right now, and is supposed to be the last line of defense. His instincts for that are bad, and his lack of length and explosion is bad for that as well. I've said it a bunch. Playing next to Dwight covers up a ton of his flaws. He won't be the last line of defense, so his over helping won't hurt us. He will be rebounding against shorter players, he will be defended by smaller players. He can even shoot now. He is a great fit next to Dwight.
DMo only challenges 35% of shots. Gobert and Bogut are around 60%. That's very interesting. Nice find. I had thought that Dwight was contesting fewer shots than you'd expect this year.
Wow, that's impressive, apparently he doesn't even have to contest the shots to have guys miss at the rim. That's real fear.
Good to see that we have 2 of the top 15 NBA rim protectors coming back from injury over the next few games! Think of our interior defence when Howard and Jones return? 2 of the NBA's best in the business! Then JSmoove is at 25 overall - nice to have that presence as well. And then Motie in the top 40 as well? Nice! http://stats.nba.com/tracking/#!/player/defense/?sort=FGP_DEFEND_RIM&dir=-1&CF=FGA_DEFEND_RIM*GE*5
