    Please tell me we aren't still talking about Patrick Patterson, the guy is long gone and we are a better team for it.

    Can anyone who is good with stats find out where DMo ranks among PFs/Cs in defending the perimeter (specifically NET DIFF between OPP's FG% against DMo and their season FG%).

    I respect your opinion, but I don't think turnovers are an issue with him. He never approached even 2 TO's a game per 36 minutes any season of his career. Besides, why would PPat ever be handling the ball? TJones is a rarity in being a big man who can handle the ball - a luxury that I don't really care about from the PF spot. Inconsistent shooter? I've already provided shooting evidence, and I remember his shot being money with the Rockets. Defense - like I said, I really would be interested in seeing better stats on this. I do remember specifically a game with PPat guarding LMA. LMA got his, but he was making these incredible turnaround fade-aways, much like he did against Asik. PPat was not getting pushed around like a rag doll like TJones.

    Like I said before, the thing everyone b*tched about him when he was here was rebounding, but he's been about average the last couple of years.

    It seems we just have a different view on this.

    Negative numbers in the last column are very good. D-Mo is (small sample size warning) in a league by himself. I doubt it continues.

    From what I've seen just watching and rewatching the last series of games with Dwight out.....DMo has become a positive defender and has actually anchored this D for the last little stretch. I'm not worried about him defending the perimeter. I'm worried about him being able to defend teams with double bigs alongside Dwight and anchoring the second team in the middle when Dwight sits. It's simply a matter of can DMo defend bigger PFs (on the perimeter and in the paint) and backup centers (down low or up high) effectively. If other teams want to play small ball against Dwight and DMo....that plays right into our hands. We can then go small and stagger Dwight and DMo and we'll be at the advantage 90% of the time.

    By the way these are SportsVU stats which actually track play by play and each individual offensive player. The gold standard in fan stats. There really is no one comparable to D-Mo.

    Man, I must be slow or something, but I can't find the pricing on SportsVU's web site. Can you point me in that direction, jtr? Thanks!!!

    SportsVU costs $10K+ a year. Use NBA.com/stats.

    Oh, that's all.......... ;)

    Man, I need to start being friendlier to you on here - you've got deep pockets!!

    Oh wait, I know how to do it - man, isn't that DMo good. Boy, he is the best! I saw him shoot a 3 pointer the other night, and it actually hit the rim!

    j/k haha

    Thanks for the info.

    LOL. I spend a lot of time looking at player stats. I understand right where D-Mo sits in the order of things. NBA.com/stats/player tracking data is generated from SportsVU data. While I do have deep pockets, SportsVU is marketed only to NBA teams, major colleges, ESPN, Grantland etc. Major organizations performing serious analytics. I could not possibly use 10% of what SportsVU offers.

    D-Mo post game interview is exactly what you want to hear from a young player. He needs to keep the beard. Ever since he's had it he's been playing superbly. :grin:

    Gosh I really hope that the Rockets actually use DMo in the post when Dwight comes back. He has been making really good plays from the post.

    I'm not going to lie...I have always hated DMo but damn he is killing it now. I hope that doesn't change once he goes back to coming of the bench when Tjones comes back.

    He's stepping up exactly when he's needed the most. Luckily for D-Mo, he becomes a FA the same year that Parsons' contract expires, so he can be the next horribly overpaid player lured to Dallas.

    Thanks again for educating me on NBA.com's stats. I didn't know they had made such improvements. You can find so much stuff there!

    I did some looking at various power forwards who I at one time or another thought would fit the Rockets, and I didn't find anyone who is the perfect fit:

    ...not Patrick Patterson (his defensive FG% was significantly higher than the average);
    ...not Ryan Anderson (his defensive FG% was even more significantly higher than the average and his rebounding sucks);
    ...not Marcus Morris (believe it or not, he has real good defensive FG% numbers, and he's shooting the three ball well. But his rebounding is pathetic);
    ...not Anthony Tolliver (defensive FG% numbers sucked);
    ...not Channing Frye (defensive FG% numbers did not look good).

    Brandon Bass doesn't shoot the three, but his defensive FG% looked pretty alright. Maybe he'd be alright. Ersan also looked pretty good, though he is probably more valuable to the Bucks now.

    DMo's play does encourage me.

    D-mo is really impressing. For whatever reason he's finally understanding how you have to play physical and smart basketball to be successful in the NBA.

    Hopefully the level of plays continues when Dwight comes back. But he's earned some slack in my book with these past couple performances.

    Dmo is gonna get paid big I feel if he keeps this up. A guy that big with that skillset makes so much bank.

    As a starter he is giving pretty much the same stats as TJo...15ppg, 7rbs...shooting 58%.....or there abouts.
