He's very successful for his limited market. But going after that market is not going to bring the kind of success expected of a comic book movie.
Vanity - Not sure if you saw my earlier post but why do you think Glover would be "perfect" for the role? I could care less about race but I'm trying to figure out why you think he'd be a big upgrade over McGuire. Glover is a comedian and other than Community and some sketches, he's never done any type of serious acting. It's no different than someone suggesting that Jet Li would be perfect for the role of George Jefferson. Even if you take race out of it, it still doesn't make a whole lot of sense IMO.
Ummm, that character was supposed to be white. He was an American soldier who got captured by samurai rebels and ended up adopting their cause, lifestyle, and methods and became a samurai himself. All the Japanese roles were played by Japanese actors.
So give him this role and let it be his first?? Most of the movie will be done by CGI/Imax 3-D anyways so you'll probably won't even notice there's a black person there...

I wouldn't mind having a black spider man, but I've seen this guy's acting on community and its not all that great. Those endings crack me up every time though.
Money-wise, It matters that the majority has a sterotypical view of a certain race. True, but not awesome.

Perfect? I dunno bout that. Acceptable? Sure do whatever you want. I didn't see the last one (or two?) anyway. I personally think it's a bad move, but based on my guess of how successful it will be, rather than engaging on a dialog of whether or not it would be acceptable or not. I don't know if they'd be talking about redoing it or what, but starting the story over and remaking the first movie with a completely different guy just seems counterproductive, and I would think it's too early for that to be successful. Maybe he'd be best ever in the part, but strategically it seems a bad move.
