Yeah, but they could make that money by doing another movie with the same cast or by starting a new superhero franchise.
I think Sony tried that already. It's not as easy to create a billion dollar franchise as you might think.
I thought that movie was pretty good and I am not usually a Smith fan. Especially since he redid Karate Kid.
Well, there are some superheroes that are essentially loners so changing their race isn't an issue. Spider-man is a different story. If you make Peter Parker black, are all his friends/enemies/love interests still white? Do you change their race as well? Do you change his mannerisms, sense of humor, etc.? People have stereotypical views of blacks (or any race) and a broad audience will just reject it if the character doesn't fit that.
Ah, so he can't be black because his mannerisms and social circle may not fit people's "stereotypical views." Awesome.
God I hate that I know this but having seen every cartoon of this plus the movie with my grandsons the character of Goku wasn't Japanese....heck he wasn't even human as he came from another planet. This cartoon was multi-ethnic as well and the movie pretty much casted each character based on race as depicted in the cartoon. The character of Nathan Algren was not based on any Japanese character real or otherwise but was loosely based on the real life French army captain Jules Brunet who fought alongside Enomoto Takeaki in the Boshin War.
Given the right tweaks here and there to the storyline along with the right overall storyarc to avoid making the movie an unintentional parody of the comics...I would say yes definitely. But given the extreme fickleness of today's comic fans, overall movie audiences, and critics that is easier said than done. First and foremost whether anyone likes it or not you need to have the comic fans on board to get this idea off the ground as they are going to be your main "repeat viewing" revenue source ultimately and the only way I see getting them on board at this time first and foremost is to introduce this idea through the comics through a sustained run to soften them to the idea and move from there if it were to prove popular. If you just throw this very big retcon out there straight to the movies realistically it would more than likely get decimated by the massive base of traditionalists that go soley by canon that has been built up over the last 50 years of this comic book characters existence. We have already almost seen an example of this a couple years ago when it was revealed that Beyonce was in serious talks to portray Lois Lane in the Superman Returns film. Once that info hit the net the comic fans went into a hissy fit and Knowles was dropped from consideration soon afterwords. Could she have portrayed the role?...yes but she wouldn't have had the backing of comic fans because of the extreme suddenness of that very big retcon so she ultimately lost the role. In the end though it is going to boil down to money as always. Do you think the studio head in charge of this is going to risk the big budget that it is going to take make this film and the expected 500 - 600 million plus worldwide payday plus all the other financials expected to be produced off this movie at the end of the day on what is a very big and sudden retcon to the Spiderman franchise? Right or wrong in the end I don't think they will.
That movie was an epic failure that didn't appeal to the fans of the property, so why again should that example be followed?
Because it was a Japanese based show, and the general public will not watch something like that unless you are an anime queer (like myself) or loved the anime show.. Spider-Man is from the good ol USA, and pretty global all around... Everybody loves spider man in fact there is a Japanese version of the same character, here check it out!!! So let a brother be Spider-Man for once... <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/mcxioU7AMM4&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/mcxioU7AMM4&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
None of Tyler Perry's films has even made $100 million. That's not a massive hit for comic book movies.
the girls were super hot. I never watched any dragonball except the movie cause it had some really hot girls.
