why don't they just make a new story with new superheroes? why do they gotta mess with old characters? f-in hollywood.
Besides the whole race thing, why do you think Glover would be a big improvement? The guy is a comedian. I've seen some of his stuff and seen every episode of Community, the guy is funny but he is not a very good actor. Other than being young and wearing nerdy glasses (in that picture), I don't see how he would fit into that role at all. CaseyH hit it right on the head IMO.
If they make black spiderman, they better cast that white NBC guy for Shaft reboot. How about rebooting Bad Boys with Jackie Chan and Jet Li? That movie isn't based on real people either. Let's just mix up all the ethnicities. How about rebooting the Friday movie franchise with Bollywood stars?
This has become a meme/fad recently. As a minority myself, I don't like it. What exactly is this "new take" on Spider-Man supposed to be, other than turning him black?
I think Glover thinks it's funny and is just running with it. Though it must be amusing to see so many people freak out over *GASP* just the thought of it. Really, I don't care what color Spiderman is in a movie. HA-HA!
. . . and people thought I was crazy when I suggested that AVATAR would not be as successful if the guy in the wheel chair was black. Rocket River *chuckle*
The Peter Parker character just seems like it can only be played (successfully) by a white guy. You'd either have to change some other things or parts of the story would be difficult for many to believe. I think there are plenty of comic book characters that can be played by different races but Spider-Man ain't it.
This thread reminds me of when I was little and we'd play pretend and my dick friends would never let me be Superman, Batman, or Spider-Man because they weren't black. F--kers. Thank god for TMNT. No, this is nothing like making Shaft white or Mike Lowery asian. Those characters' race and culture play a huge part in who they are. But if ethnicity is not intrinsic to the character, it really doesn't f-ing matter what color they are. The question here is, how much does Peter Parker's whitness (or non-blackness) play a part in who he is? What really changes? If it's a big deal, then keep him white. If not (which it isn't, imo), they why can't the character be universal? Please elaborate on this.
none. Maybe the guy would be a better than Tobey...But tobey was a very good spiderman. And to think some guy who hasnt done anything nearly as good as tobey (acting wise) is pretty rediculous. The real question is, if spidey is black...will MJ now be an overweight white girl?
