Funny that you say that. I also started reading the book and stopped because it's spun so much in favor of Donaghy. All or part of it may well be true, but he definitely spins each story to make himself look better.
I read that article from the OP and all I got out of it was: "BUY MY BOOK!" "The NBA Cheats" "WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? BUY MY BOOK!!!" "They did me wrong..." "BUY MY BOOK NOOOWWW!!!" Not buying the book. We already know the NBA is crooked under the helm of Sperm. I'll wait until the online book comes out where I can read it for free. I think the book is like a Hollywood movie that's "based on a true story" in which Donaghy takes a real event with 1 fact and adds so much spin and color into it just to make it more interesting. So I'll probably treat it that way and wait until I can "rent" the movie.
I gotta say, though, after seeing the YouTube documentary "The Greatest Tragedy in Sports," Tim sounded a lot more credible to me. Plus, Tm says it affected our Rockets too--in 2005, when we were facing the Mavs. And even more recently than that...
hmm.... in that piece above he states that these things are still going on and you can tell if you by his book and apply to a game this season... yet in his last interview he said he hasnt even watched a game since all this came out. honestly feel hes trying to get some more sales in

The most irritating thing about the administration of the NBA is that nobody can do anything about it. You say one word about the officials and boom, instant fine. And the player's union only cares about making money, they don't care about the games

Yeah, the Bulls got the first pick in the Rose draft out of a small chance of winning, but there was a lot of s****y Bulls teams that didn't get the first pick. Specifically the ones you mention...the Patrick Ewing frozen envelope theory is an interesting conspiracy theory that's been rumored a long time, but Cleveland was the worst team in the league the year they got LeBron. And I fail to see why the NBA would have fixed it so that big college stars like Duncan, Oden and Durant end up on small market teams. The fishiest game in NBA history, and the only thing that even puts a seed of doubt in my mind, is Lakers-Kings game 6. I give Donaghy no credibility, however, and I don't believe the NBA fixes games, because if I did, I wouldn't follow the NBA anymore, and I love basketball too much to let that happen. As for lottery results, however, I fail to see any proof of conspiracy minus conspiracy theorists constantly crying about it. Honestly, Boston falliing all the way to pick #5 (the lowest they could have possibly fallen) in 2007, although it worked out for them in the end, pretty much should have ended any conspiracy talk in my book. I'll get off my soapbox now :grin:
Just in case any of you are misinformed: Tim Donaghy did NOT manipulate the games. The FBI AND the NBA did not find any direct bias in Donaghy's officiating. Tim Donaghy was simply resourceful, and he knew the way each and every referee officiated. It's pretty sad if a resourceful person is able to win 70% of his bets on NBA game.
Not really there are trends associated with each crew, some call a lot of touch fouls that would benefit Lowry and Kmart, some let them play more on the low post. If you know the trends and know who is officiating, the over/under is the easiest thing to bet upon....because lots of fouls means lots more points. DD

There is indeed. But if in all the games they have reviewed they have not been able to find any conspicuous bias calls, then I'm pretty sure Tim Donaghy made as many correct calls as possible.
I read his book and I believe everything I read. Why would he lie? The NBA never did him wrong or anything..
I'm not saying he is lying, but if he is, I think the money from the book deal would be a good incentive. Nobody's going to pay him to write a book about NBA games not being affected by bias.
Guys, I just feel he's on to something. Trust me, he does not deserve the benefit of the doubt with his gross actions. But watching NBA games, some things just don't make any sense with the way the ref's can call a game. We all know what a blocking foul is, the restricted area under the basket where the defender has to be set before taking on a charge. Yet, it's amazing how NBA ref's don't really stick to those guidelines, making it so erratic on which way the call is going to be. One minute the refs allow certain contact in the post, the next minute they are calling it a foul. I'll be honest, I've lost a lot of interest in basketball over the years mainly due to the way refs call games--which is dirty. The one thing I love about the NFL is they have instant replay, to at least attempt to show fans they are trying to be fair. I just don't get the same vibe from these NBA ref's.
That wasn't an op-ed piece, it was an advertisement. I can't blame him too much; I'm sure he's been blacklisted from any salary-paying basketball-related job, and his record will keep many more doors closed as well. If he wants to eat, he has to sell his book. I don't have a problem with his credibility. From the parts I've read, I see no reason to believe he's actually lying. He probably does characterize actions by the NBA as more sinister than they actually are. His smoking gun is mostly mild ref favoritism and some lack of professionalism, which isn't a huge surprise.
