Wow... I just saw a video of Tim Russert in my office and...wow... The guy came on Imus 24/7! They know each others family. And to not give him ANY support whatsoever... I tell you what. Times like this you find out who is who in your personal world.
To paraphrase... That the circus is really not news related. He said that MSNBC will survive, etc. It was all about the news and not the personal.
Well he sure loved to go into the tent to pimp his books and weekly guests... I guess you don't become "Washington Bureau Chief" by being loyal to "friends."
I use to TIVO Meet The Press religiously. This Sunday, one more taping. Then, I will find something else to do on Sunday mornings.
Funny how Tennessee never suspended him. The biggest beneficiaries of his suspensions are the 29 out of 30 teams who for sure won't face him next year. Seems the proper place to suspend a player for negatively affecting team chemistry would be the team itself. I am not saying which is worse. If it is proven in a court of law Pacman’s actions were illegal and the cause of significant injury IMO it is worse. But we have a criminal justice system to make that determination. Now in Imus’s case there is a public record of these types of bigoted, racists, sexist, etc, etc, comments over and over. He even admits to those comments, and the comments came while on his job and are directly related to what his job is. And personally yes I think his comments also have a negative impact on society--and I am glad sponsors and a company as large as CBS said he has no place in what they represent. Imus is certainly free to go find Outlaw Rebel Radio or put together his own program via internet--but that kind of stuff he was pulling should not belong on mainstream media outlets.
You're right, which is why the people at Hot 97 got 2 week suspensensions for playing that horrible Tsunami song and making racist remarks afterwards about it.
Then why aren't we holding Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton to these same standards? I am sure those Duke players are still waiting for their apology for their racist remarks towards them...... DD
if yah got the proof i'd say go for it. anything less would mean the whole Jackson/Sharpton arguments are just hollow attempts to excuse the inexcusable. good luck!
link to the racist remarks please - I dont recall a point that Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton made disparaging and racist statements about the players. The might have pointed out the race of the players, but that is NOT the sam as a racist joke or statement. Pointing out an (accurate) history of racial bias in law enforcement and our judicial system is not morally equal to someone characterizing a group of young women as hos. Those are not in any way equal comments. "Hymietown" is closer, much closer. Not Duke
I know everyone wants a "point set and match" in these debates, but there is no such thing, espeicaly ina demonstrably wrong post.
This is an excellent point. In Borat, there was an entire scene where they were "running with the Jew." The entire point was to kill it before any of the Jew eggs could hatch. Why was there no uproar over this, when there is over a much less offensive comment by Imus? Answer: Al Sharpton could give a flying tinker's damn about Jews.
There is a difference between lines said by fictional characters in a fictional movie than words said by a real person in real life. There's a difference between Don Imus as an actor in some movie playing a character saying "nappy headed hos" in some scene vs Don Imus a real life commentator being a real life person saying the same thing. Are you really not seeing the difference or are you trying to find every excuse possible to justify Imus???
Shhh... Never let facts get in the way of a good rabble. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/H7Zwk-OLCcY"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/H7Zwk-OLCcY" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
